Recognition of the Stacked Objects for Bin Picking

Abstract

In this paper, we propose recognition method of the stacked objects for pick-and-place motion. The situation that the objects are stacked miscellaneously in the home is assumed. In the home, the equipment to arrange the objects doesn’t exist. Therefore it’s necessary to recognize the stacked objects respectively. In this paper, Information on the objects are measured by a laser range finder (LRF). Those information is used as 3-D point cloud, and the objects are recognized by model-base. A local minimum problem exists in recognition of the objects. We propose the method to recognize the stacked objects statistically using multiple recognition result. Avoidance of the local minimum problem and the segmentation of each objects are performed by recognizing statistically.

User Behaviour Monitoring Using Mobile Phones to Improve 5G Services and Performance

Abstract

4G has been widely commercialised, and 5G is currently under development. The expected data bandwidth for 5G is 100 times faster than 4G and 500 times faster than 3G; however, the evolution of telecommunication technologies involves both a boost in speed and the enhancement of user experience. The key word used to describe 5G is ‘user-centric’, rather than ‘service-centric’ for 4G, and thus user behaviours of mobile data usage should be further investigated. On the other hand, the testing equipment currently being used for base stations is limited to hardware devices, such as spectrum analysers and power meters. These testing methods do not include the considerable potential variations in data demands due to changes in user behaviours, which could be resolved by presuming that all data resources could be dynamically allocated by real-time events.

A complete system has been designed and implemented in this study to investigate current user behaviours regarding mobile data usage. The system consists of three individual parts, including a user iOS application, a web server and an administrative iOS application. Ten devices were tested within the two-month data collection period. Although the sample size was too small to produce any statistical results, it was found that data usage behaviours differ from user to user, with the exception of using more than 10 times the Wi-Fi over WWAN data at all times. The data also proved that some of the usage case families, which are described in the NGMN 5G white paper, do have strong demands, which could not be fulfilled using current telecommunication technologies due to technological gaps.

This paper shows that the system proposed is a feasible method to investigate user behaviours of mobile data usage. If the sample size of users involved could be increased in the future, it would be possible to develop a model for real-time simulations of mobile users in specific areas so that limited connection resources could be dynamically allocated. Moreover, the basic communication infra-structures, such as base stations, should be well-planned and developed in advance to fulfill the potential 5G demand.

Measurement and Control System for Thermosolar Plant and Performance Comparison Between Traditional and Nanofluid Solar Thermal Collectors

Abstrakt

Abstract

Aim of this work is the design of a programmable electronic system for monitoring the environmental parameters and managing the electrical functions of a thermo-solar plant. The designed control unit detects data from temperature and light sensors, processes acquired information and commands external equipments (pumps, electric valves and power supplies) in order to optimize plant performances and maximize efficiency and energy savings. Recently several researches, in the field of solar thermal energy production, have demonstrated that nanofluid-based solar collectors present higher conversion efficiency. In this context, the designed control unit can be used to detect their operation parameters in order to compare the performances of nanofluidbased solar collector with those of traditional one. The electronic experimental setup is capable to monitor, at the same time, the two different types of solar collector in similar environmental conditions and to show on touch screen display the detected performances. In order to have reference data, experimental measurements have been carried out by using traditional water and Al2O3-based nanofluid thermo solar collectors. The obtained experimental data showed the benefit in terms of efficiency in the use of nanofluid as heat transfer fluid in such a system.

Evaluation of Hybrid Trust Models Using Ant Colony Optimization in Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are prone to various kinds of threats and are subjected to several constraints like energy, communication overhead and lifetime. Application of bio-inspired algorithms based trust models has shown significant improvement in the security mechanism of the wireless sensor networks. This paper presents a brief survey on application of Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) and significance of trust models in WSNs. ACO application in routing, increase in lifetime, energy efficiency, intrusion detection and security has been presented. The performance of three hybrid trust models is evaluated based on the path length, trust calculation and energy consumption using ACO.

Middleware for Smart Heterogeneous Critical Infrastructure Networks Intercommunication

Abstract

Critical Infrastructures (CIs) are physical assets and organizations responsible for the production and distribution of society’s vital goods and services. The increasing interconnection of CIs has resulted in interdependencies which might lead to propagation of failure from one infrastructure to another. Most of current critical infrastructures are equipped with data collection and communication capabilities that can be used to inform and warn other CIs about such events and alarms. In this paper, a publish/subscribe-based communication system among dissimilar (heterogeneous) CIs is presented. The proposed system improves the manageability of CIs by providing an exchange medium for status information and alerts. It achieves this via a uniform architecture, within and across infrastructure boundaries, that maintains data restrictions that reflect real life organizational, administrative, and policy boundaries. Finally, the proposed system is modeled using the OMNET++ simulation framework, and a network performance study investigating scalability is presented. Simulation results showed that system scalability depends on service time per packet, subscription density, and number of clients per router.

PGSA-Based Localization Algorithm for Wireless Sensor Network

Abstrakt

Abstract

This paper proposes a novel localization algorithm for wireless sensor network (WSN). Accurate localization is very important for WSN. WSN localization problem is sometimes regarded as an optimization problem. Plant growth simulation algorithm (PGSA) is a kind of new intelligent optimization algorithm, which is intelligent simulation of plant growth in natural way. In addition to the common characteristics of intelligent algorithms, PGSA show robustness and provides a global optimal solution, etc. In this paper, further enhancement of the algorithm by adding the plant root of adaptive backlight function to effectively improve the computing speed and localization precision has been reported. Comparing this algorithm with simulated annealing algorithm (SAA), simulation results show that this algorithm has a higher and more consistent localization precision and faster computational speed.

Structural Desigh and Motion Analysis of Universal Mobile Quadruped Robot

Abstrakt

Abstract

According to bionics and simplified octopus structure, this paper designed a universal mobile quadruped robot and adopted Denavit-Hartenberg system to analyze the single leg kinematics of a robot, obtaining its kinematics equation. Also, through the method of separating variables, this paper solved its inverse kinematics and got the joint angle. A walking gait is planned and the joint angle of vertical pendulum stance phase and swing phase of the robot in walking are calculated. MATLAB is used to simulate the relevant joint angles of the robot, so as to analyze its movement change. Experimental results further verified the universal motion of robots.

A Novel Hybrid Localization Method for Wireless Sensor Network

Abstract

Wireless sensor network is a kind of brand-new information acquisition platform, which is realized by the introduction of self-organizing and auto-configuration mechanisms. Node localization technology represents a crucial component of wireless sensor network. In this paper, a localization method based on kernel principal component analysis and particle swarm optimization back propagation algorithm is carefully discussed. First of all, taking KPCA as the front-end system to extract the main components of the localization information, and then regarding the nonlinear principal components extracted from distance vectors as the input samples, and meanwhile taking the coordinates of vertices in addition to the region boundary as the output samples, the PSO-BP neural network is trained to achieve the localization model. Finally the localization of unknown nodes can be estimated. The simulation experiment result showed that the method has high ability of stability and precision, and meets the practical need of localization.

Probability Sensing Model Based Enhancement of Coverage for Video Sensor Networks

Abstract

With the foundation of the video probabilistic sensing model that sensing direction is steerable, the study on path coverage enhancement algorithm for video sensor networks has been improved, analysis the position of effective center of mass in the sensor’s model, the network calculates the gravitation between the target track points and the trace nodes, and the repulsive force between both trace nodes of the target track points, then the trace node adjusts its sense direction, make the probability of the target track points which is perceived by the sensor network equals or exceeds the perception threshold. The simulation result shows that, this improved algorithm has make further improvement on the perception of the target which is move in the coverage area, it uses more fewer directional video nodes, but the video sensor networks is fully and high effectively covering the target trajectory.

Testbed Evaluation of Self-Adaptive Trust Model for Cooperative Geographic Routing in Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are often deployed in remote and hostile environments to monitor the mission critical tasks. In such environments, cooperation among nodes plays a vital role for successful execution of protocol operations. However, node cooperation may not be guaranteed when malicious activities are present in the WSNs. Trust management based security has received considerable attention to use along with cryptography based security to improve the cooperation among nodes in the presence of malicious activities in the network. This paper proposes the self-adaptive trust model for cooperative geographic routing in WSNs. Unlike existing trust models, nodes running the proposed trust model systematically observe the behavior of their neighboring nodes and evaluate the trust values with adaptive weight assessment. The proposed method has been integrated with conventional Greedy Perimeter Stateless Routing (GPSR) protocol. Further, it has been coded with nesC programming in TinyOS environment and evaluated on a WSN testbed consisting of 15 Telosb sensor nodes. The experimental results show that the proposed method significantly improved the packet delivery ratio in the presence of packet dropping and modification attacks.

Ellipse Detection on Embryo Imaging Using Random Sample Consensus (Ransac) Method Based on Arc Segment

Abstract

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a method which is used to help couples who have a fertility problem. One of the problems of IVF is the success rate, which is only about 30%. One cause of the problem is the embryo morphology observation done by embryologist manually. Morphologically normal embryo does not mean the embryos are genetically normal. The aforementioned phenomena can be tested by using time lapse recording in which unavailable in the manual observation. Therefore it is very important to establish method for time lapsed recording of the embryos. This can be done by automatic observation on the embryo image, where the first step is to create a system that can automatically detect the embryo. This paper proposed Random Sample Consensus (RANSAC) method based on Arc Segment to automatically detect embryo. From the experiment that have been conducted, the proposed method can detect single and multiple ellipse on embryo with a better accuracy than the previous method, EDCircles by 6%c and 3%cfor single and double respectively.

Modification of Particle Swarm Optimization by Reforming Global Best Term to Accelerate the Searching of Odor Sources

Abstract

Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) has been widely utilized for Odor Source Localization (OSL) purposes. There have been plenty of researches on this field. The latest research to modify original PSO were on the utilization of wind dynamics. In wind utilization research, the robot movement would be retarded if the robot movement direction is similar to the wind direction. Conform to the aforementioned method, this research proposed new modification on the global best term of PSO algorithm. There are two modifications proposed in this research, named Ignoring gBest 1 (IgB1) and Ignoring gBest 2 (IgB2).The basic concept of two proposed methods are identical by considering wind dynamic into global best term of PSO. The robot which in the original PSO will move to global best position would be deviated to the other point which is defined by deliberating wind direction. The main difference of both the method lies on the addition of new term in IgB1, whereas in IgB2 there is modification in social term without any additional term. The experiment was conducted on two PSO for OSL purposes algorithms i.e. Ranged Sub-Group PSO (RSPSO) and Ranged Multi Niche PSO (RMNPSO). The result on RMNPSO showed significant decrease in time consumption while employing both the proposed method. On the contrary in RSPSO the improvement is insignificant compared to the original algorithm.

PSO Algorithm for Single and Multiple Odor Sources Localization Problems: Progress and Challenge

Abstract

Odor sensing technology in robotic research introduce two research field namely odor recognition and odor source localization. Odor source localization research also includes the odor recognition ability with localization method. This paper shows some experiment had been done to localize odor source using single agent and multiple agents. Experiment shows that single agent can’t be used in dynamic environment, hence also can’t be used in real life application. This paper promotes an algorithm known as Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to solve these problems. The experiment conducted using PSO shows that PSO able to localize the odor source in the same condition where single agent failed. However, PSO still need to be modified before it can be use widely. This paper shows modification that has been proposed by the authors to enhance it’s ability. The research also has been push to solve multiple odor sources using parallel localization. To verify proposed method, software simulator was used. Results from these experiment show that Modified PSO is able to localize all four odor sources in dynamic environment in 651.900 seconds within 7 x 7 meters search area. The modification being applied in this research not limited by searching technic but also creating two types of robot.

Visualization Technology of the Microstructure of Reservoir Core

Abstract

To solve the problem in conventional technologies of analysis and integration in micro scale of reservoir core, virtual reality and visualization technology can be used in the research of reservoir core microstructure. Integrated with practical research and application works, the modeling method of reservoir core and the database store method of microstructure model are analyzed and discussed. A skeleton extraction algorithm based on maximum circumsphere method is proposed to achieve the skeleton model construction of reservoir core. And the visualization of reservoir core microstructure which includes the visualizations of voxel model, surface model, solid model and skeleton model of reservoir core are realized based on OpenGL graphics library. Taking a carbonate as a case study, we develop a set of software named “visualization system of reservoir core microstructure”, which is an effective evidence in the application to scientific research of reservoir core microstructure.

Valve Barrel Position Control Based on Self-Tuning Fuzzy Pid with Particle Swarm Optimization

Abstract

This paper introduced the self-tuning fuzzy PID controller based on particle swarm optimization which aims to gain more precise control over the position of pneumatic proportional valve barrel, where particle swarm works to optimize the membership function, fuzzy rule and PID parameter in fuzzy control. The study fruits also include online optimization of the self-tuning fuzzy PID controller parameters. Comparing to the conventional control methodology, The self-tuning fuzzy PID controller with PSO optimization is proven to show better precision, dynamic performance index and more rapid tracking performance and robustness. To this end, step response was used to compare and analyze the results from the PSO algorithm optimization, providing a pragmatic method of better comprehensive performance for PID parameter optimization.

A Gain Scheduling of PI Controllers of a Multi Span Web Transport System

Abstract

This research aims to address the issue of controlling a multi-span web transport system by an automatic tuning of the PI controllers parameters. The use of multi-span web transport systems often requires dedicating a particular effort for defining a control system able to protect the integrity of the web. The possibility of using PI controllers for each section is attractive considering that an overlapping system decomposition may permit to take into account the mutual interaction of the neighbor sections. In this case, the choice of correct values of the PI parameters becomes crucial for the control performance. Existing fixed gain PI tension control schemes currently used in industrial practice require extensive tuning and do not provide the desired performance for changing operating conditions. This paper describes a simple strategy for automatically selecting the PI parameters of a multi span transport system by using an nonlinear interpolation of the trend of a preliminary calibration. The algorithm is simple and efficient providing fast real-time implementation, since it does not require any data processing. The proposed technique features robustness and simplicity. The implications of this method reside in its applicability in an industrial platform.

Hardware and Software Solution Developed in Arm Mbed Environment for Driving and Controlling DC Brushless Motors Based on ST X-Nucleo Development Boards

Abstract

Aim of this work is the design and realization of a driving system for monitoring and controlling of a BLDC motor with Hall sensors embedded. The realized system is composed by three principal blocks: the control electronic board, the power driving board and the BLDC motor. The first block is based on the STM32 Nucleo development board assembled with the second one, the ST-X-Nucleo-IHM07M1 motor driver expansion board which integrates an L6230 IC driver. The used BLDC motor is the DF45M024053-A2 model provided by Nanotec. The firmware, needed to properly control motor operation, was developed in ARM mbed environment, a development tool available on cloud which allows to send the .bin file (obtained after firmware compilation) directly to the STM32 development board, regarded from operating system, once connected via USB to PC, simply as an external memory. By PC connected via USB with STM32 board, the user can choose the motor rotation direction, set the desired rpm value and, by varying potentiometer value located on board, change the rotation speed. Furthermore, different controls are performed during motor operation such as on PWM duty-cycle value (if it is equal to 100%, then power supply is removed), on temperature value of L6230 IC driver and a control of motor rotation; in this latter case, if BLDC motor is stalled for a time period higher than 3 seconds, then the power supply is interrupted in order to safeguard the motor/system integrity.

Secure Data Storage Mechanism for Integration of Wireless Sensor Networks and Mobile Cloud

Abstract

Together with an explosive growth of the mobile applications and emerging of cloud computing concept, mobile cloud computing (MCC) has been introduced to be a potential technology for mobile services. Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) is the technology that connects the virtual world and the physical world where nodes can autonomously communicate among each other and with intelligent systems. This paper describes the concept of wireless sensor networks and mobile cloud computing. Recently, much research has proposed to integrate wireless sensor networks (WSNs) with mobile cloud computing, so that powerful cloud computing can be exploited to process the sensory data accumulated by WSNs and provide these date to the mobile users on demand. The current WSN-MCC integration schemes have several drawbacks. This paper proposes a data processing framework, which aims at transmitting desired data to the mobile users in a rapid, reliable and even more secure manner. The proposed framework decreases the storage requirements for sensor nodes and networks gateway. And it minimizes the traffic overhead and bandwidth requirement for sensor networks. Additionally, the framework can predict the future trend of sensory data and provide security for this sensory data. This framework ensures the mobile users obtain their desired data faster.

A Real-time Pedestrian Detection System in Street Scene

Abstract

Pedestrian detection is the key technology in Advanced Driver Assistant System (ADAS).Until recently, pedestrian detection, which is realized as the vehicle equipment, still doesn’t have the mature product. So, this thesis proposes a novel pedestrian detection system on board with the E-HOG (Histogram of Gradient) IP (intellectual property), can be used as the real time vehicle equipment. Three contributions are made in this thesis. Firstly, Sobel operator cascaded Uniform Local Binary Pattern (LBP) and E-HOG is the novel structure of pedestrian detection system. The Sobel operator gives the sliding step of Uniform LBP detection window, without using the results of LBP detection window. Through this operation, the detection speed will be improved. Second, the vehicle equipment of pedestrian detection is self-developed using FPGA as core devices. Third, E-HOG IP, which is promoted based on the HOG, can extract pedestrian or other objects feature. Without sacrifice of accuracy, this pedestrian detection on board deals with 30 fps (640x480 pixels) and can be used as the real-time detection system.

Research on Distributed Data Storage based on Information Processing Cloud

Abstrakt

Abstract

Sensor network is a data-centric network, which provides data collection, storage and query services. Data storage and query is one of the hot spot in the research of sensor networks. In order to solve the problem of low efficiency of storage and query, high energy consumption in sensor networks, we put forward a scheme that storing distributed data of wireless sensor network based on information processing cloud. Information processing cloud is made up of a group of sensor nodes around the network center, which have the ability to absorb and process data from other nodes of sensor network which do not belong to the information processing cloud. The group of sensor nodes around the network center respond data query requests from anywhere of the network, and sensor nodes can be adjusted dynamically according to real situation, the cloud of nodes and non-cloud of nodes can be dynamically transformed as well. When non-cloud of sensor nodes store data or send query request, they only need to do centripetal movement, centrifugal movement or circumfusing movement. The analysis shows that the proposed scheme can simplify route algorithm of data storage and data query, and it also has less computation cost and storage cost than the existing schemes.

Recognition of the Stacked Objects for Bin Picking

Abstract

In this paper, we propose recognition method of the stacked objects for pick-and-place motion. The situation that the objects are stacked miscellaneously in the home is assumed. In the home, the equipment to arrange the objects doesn’t exist. Therefore it’s necessary to recognize the stacked objects respectively. In this paper, Information on the objects are measured by a laser range finder (LRF). Those information is used as 3-D point cloud, and the objects are recognized by model-base. A local minimum problem exists in recognition of the objects. We propose the method to recognize the stacked objects statistically using multiple recognition result. Avoidance of the local minimum problem and the segmentation of each objects are performed by recognizing statistically.

User Behaviour Monitoring Using Mobile Phones to Improve 5G Services and Performance

Abstract

4G has been widely commercialised, and 5G is currently under development. The expected data bandwidth for 5G is 100 times faster than 4G and 500 times faster than 3G; however, the evolution of telecommunication technologies involves both a boost in speed and the enhancement of user experience. The key word used to describe 5G is ‘user-centric’, rather than ‘service-centric’ for 4G, and thus user behaviours of mobile data usage should be further investigated. On the other hand, the testing equipment currently being used for base stations is limited to hardware devices, such as spectrum analysers and power meters. These testing methods do not include the considerable potential variations in data demands due to changes in user behaviours, which could be resolved by presuming that all data resources could be dynamically allocated by real-time events.

A complete system has been designed and implemented in this study to investigate current user behaviours regarding mobile data usage. The system consists of three individual parts, including a user iOS application, a web server and an administrative iOS application. Ten devices were tested within the two-month data collection period. Although the sample size was too small to produce any statistical results, it was found that data usage behaviours differ from user to user, with the exception of using more than 10 times the Wi-Fi over WWAN data at all times. The data also proved that some of the usage case families, which are described in the NGMN 5G white paper, do have strong demands, which could not be fulfilled using current telecommunication technologies due to technological gaps.

This paper shows that the system proposed is a feasible method to investigate user behaviours of mobile data usage. If the sample size of users involved could be increased in the future, it would be possible to develop a model for real-time simulations of mobile users in specific areas so that limited connection resources could be dynamically allocated. Moreover, the basic communication infra-structures, such as base stations, should be well-planned and developed in advance to fulfill the potential 5G demand.

Measurement and Control System for Thermosolar Plant and Performance Comparison Between Traditional and Nanofluid Solar Thermal Collectors

Abstract

Aim of this work is the design of a programmable electronic system for monitoring the environmental parameters and managing the electrical functions of a thermo-solar plant. The designed control unit detects data from temperature and light sensors, processes acquired information and commands external equipments (pumps, electric valves and power supplies) in order to optimize plant performances and maximize efficiency and energy savings. Recently several researches, in the field of solar thermal energy production, have demonstrated that nanofluid-based solar collectors present higher conversion efficiency. In this context, the designed control unit can be used to detect their operation parameters in order to compare the performances of nanofluidbased solar collector with those of traditional one. The electronic experimental setup is capable to monitor, at the same time, the two different types of solar collector in similar environmental conditions and to show on touch screen display the detected performances. In order to have reference data, experimental measurements have been carried out by using traditional water and Al2O3-based nanofluid thermo solar collectors. The obtained experimental data showed the benefit in terms of efficiency in the use of nanofluid as heat transfer fluid in such a system.

Evaluation of Hybrid Trust Models Using Ant Colony Optimization in Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are prone to various kinds of threats and are subjected to several constraints like energy, communication overhead and lifetime. Application of bio-inspired algorithms based trust models has shown significant improvement in the security mechanism of the wireless sensor networks. This paper presents a brief survey on application of Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) and significance of trust models in WSNs. ACO application in routing, increase in lifetime, energy efficiency, intrusion detection and security has been presented. The performance of three hybrid trust models is evaluated based on the path length, trust calculation and energy consumption using ACO.

Middleware for Smart Heterogeneous Critical Infrastructure Networks Intercommunication

Abstract

Critical Infrastructures (CIs) are physical assets and organizations responsible for the production and distribution of society’s vital goods and services. The increasing interconnection of CIs has resulted in interdependencies which might lead to propagation of failure from one infrastructure to another. Most of current critical infrastructures are equipped with data collection and communication capabilities that can be used to inform and warn other CIs about such events and alarms. In this paper, a publish/subscribe-based communication system among dissimilar (heterogeneous) CIs is presented. The proposed system improves the manageability of CIs by providing an exchange medium for status information and alerts. It achieves this via a uniform architecture, within and across infrastructure boundaries, that maintains data restrictions that reflect real life organizational, administrative, and policy boundaries. Finally, the proposed system is modeled using the OMNET++ simulation framework, and a network performance study investigating scalability is presented. Simulation results showed that system scalability depends on service time per packet, subscription density, and number of clients per router.

PGSA-Based Localization Algorithm for Wireless Sensor Network

Abstrakt

Abstract

This paper proposes a novel localization algorithm for wireless sensor network (WSN). Accurate localization is very important for WSN. WSN localization problem is sometimes regarded as an optimization problem. Plant growth simulation algorithm (PGSA) is a kind of new intelligent optimization algorithm, which is intelligent simulation of plant growth in natural way. In addition to the common characteristics of intelligent algorithms, PGSA show robustness and provides a global optimal solution, etc. In this paper, further enhancement of the algorithm by adding the plant root of adaptive backlight function to effectively improve the computing speed and localization precision has been reported. Comparing this algorithm with simulated annealing algorithm (SAA), simulation results show that this algorithm has a higher and more consistent localization precision and faster computational speed.

Structural Desigh and Motion Analysis of Universal Mobile Quadruped Robot

Abstract

According to bionics and simplified octopus structure, this paper designed a universal mobile quadruped robot and adopted Denavit-Hartenberg system to analyze the single leg kinematics of a robot, obtaining its kinematics equation. Also, through the method of separating variables, this paper solved its inverse kinematics and got the joint angle. A walking gait is planned and the joint angle of vertical pendulum stance phase and swing phase of the robot in walking are calculated. MATLAB is used to simulate the relevant joint angles of the robot, so as to analyze its movement change. Experimental results further verified the universal motion of robots.

A Novel Hybrid Localization Method for Wireless Sensor Network

Abstract

Wireless sensor network is a kind of brand-new information acquisition platform, which is realized by the introduction of self-organizing and auto-configuration mechanisms. Node localization technology represents a crucial component of wireless sensor network. In this paper, a localization method based on kernel principal component analysis and particle swarm optimization back propagation algorithm is carefully discussed. First of all, taking KPCA as the front-end system to extract the main components of the localization information, and then regarding the nonlinear principal components extracted from distance vectors as the input samples, and meanwhile taking the coordinates of vertices in addition to the region boundary as the output samples, the PSO-BP neural network is trained to achieve the localization model. Finally the localization of unknown nodes can be estimated. The simulation experiment result showed that the method has high ability of stability and precision, and meets the practical need of localization.

Probability Sensing Model Based Enhancement of Coverage for Video Sensor Networks

Abstract

With the foundation of the video probabilistic sensing model that sensing direction is steerable, the study on path coverage enhancement algorithm for video sensor networks has been improved, analysis the position of effective center of mass in the sensor’s model, the network calculates the gravitation between the target track points and the trace nodes, and the repulsive force between both trace nodes of the target track points, then the trace node adjusts its sense direction, make the probability of the target track points which is perceived by the sensor network equals or exceeds the perception threshold. The simulation result shows that, this improved algorithm has make further improvement on the perception of the target which is move in the coverage area, it uses more fewer directional video nodes, but the video sensor networks is fully and high effectively covering the target trajectory.

Testbed Evaluation of Self-Adaptive Trust Model for Cooperative Geographic Routing in Wireless Sensor Networks

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are often deployed in remote and hostile environments to monitor the mission critical tasks. In such environments, cooperation among nodes plays a vital role for successful execution of protocol operations. However, node cooperation may not be guaranteed when malicious activities are present in the WSNs. Trust management based security has received considerable attention to use along with cryptography based security to improve the cooperation among nodes in the presence of malicious activities in the network. This paper proposes the self-adaptive trust model for cooperative geographic routing in WSNs. Unlike existing trust models, nodes running the proposed trust model systematically observe the behavior of their neighboring nodes and evaluate the trust values with adaptive weight assessment. The proposed method has been integrated with conventional Greedy Perimeter Stateless Routing (GPSR) protocol. Further, it has been coded with nesC programming in TinyOS environment and evaluated on a WSN testbed consisting of 15 Telosb sensor nodes. The experimental results show that the proposed method significantly improved the packet delivery ratio in the presence of packet dropping and modification attacks.

Ellipse Detection on Embryo Imaging Using Random Sample Consensus (Ransac) Method Based on Arc Segment

Abstract

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a method which is used to help couples who have a fertility problem. One of the problems of IVF is the success rate, which is only about 30%. One cause of the problem is the embryo morphology observation done by embryologist manually. Morphologically normal embryo does not mean the embryos are genetically normal. The aforementioned phenomena can be tested by using time lapse recording in which unavailable in the manual observation. Therefore it is very important to establish method for time lapsed recording of the embryos. This can be done by automatic observation on the embryo image, where the first step is to create a system that can automatically detect the embryo. This paper proposed Random Sample Consensus (RANSAC) method based on Arc Segment to automatically detect embryo. From the experiment that have been conducted, the proposed method can detect single and multiple ellipse on embryo with a better accuracy than the previous method, EDCircles by 6%c and 3%cfor single and double respectively.

Modification of Particle Swarm Optimization by Reforming Global Best Term to Accelerate the Searching of Odor Sources

Abstract

Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) has been widely utilized for Odor Source Localization (OSL) purposes. There have been plenty of researches on this field. The latest research to modify original PSO were on the utilization of wind dynamics. In wind utilization research, the robot movement would be retarded if the robot movement direction is similar to the wind direction. Conform to the aforementioned method, this research proposed new modification on the global best term of PSO algorithm. There are two modifications proposed in this research, named Ignoring gBest 1 (IgB1) and Ignoring gBest 2 (IgB2).The basic concept of two proposed methods are identical by considering wind dynamic into global best term of PSO. The robot which in the original PSO will move to global best position would be deviated to the other point which is defined by deliberating wind direction. The main difference of both the method lies on the addition of new term in IgB1, whereas in IgB2 there is modification in social term without any additional term. The experiment was conducted on two PSO for OSL purposes algorithms i.e. Ranged Sub-Group PSO (RSPSO) and Ranged Multi Niche PSO (RMNPSO). The result on RMNPSO showed significant decrease in time consumption while employing both the proposed method. On the contrary in RSPSO the improvement is insignificant compared to the original algorithm.

PSO Algorithm for Single and Multiple Odor Sources Localization Problems: Progress and Challenge

Abstract

Odor sensing technology in robotic research introduce two research field namely odor recognition and odor source localization. Odor source localization research also includes the odor recognition ability with localization method. This paper shows some experiment had been done to localize odor source using single agent and multiple agents. Experiment shows that single agent can’t be used in dynamic environment, hence also can’t be used in real life application. This paper promotes an algorithm known as Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to solve these problems. The experiment conducted using PSO shows that PSO able to localize the odor source in the same condition where single agent failed. However, PSO still need to be modified before it can be use widely. This paper shows modification that has been proposed by the authors to enhance it’s ability. The research also has been push to solve multiple odor sources using parallel localization. To verify proposed method, software simulator was used. Results from these experiment show that Modified PSO is able to localize all four odor sources in dynamic environment in 651.900 seconds within 7 x 7 meters search area. The modification being applied in this research not limited by searching technic but also creating two types of robot.

Visualization Technology of the Microstructure of Reservoir Core

Abstract

To solve the problem in conventional technologies of analysis and integration in micro scale of reservoir core, virtual reality and visualization technology can be used in the research of reservoir core microstructure. Integrated with practical research and application works, the modeling method of reservoir core and the database store method of microstructure model are analyzed and discussed. A skeleton extraction algorithm based on maximum circumsphere method is proposed to achieve the skeleton model construction of reservoir core. And the visualization of reservoir core microstructure which includes the visualizations of voxel model, surface model, solid model and skeleton model of reservoir core are realized based on OpenGL graphics library. Taking a carbonate as a case study, we develop a set of software named “visualization system of reservoir core microstructure”, which is an effective evidence in the application to scientific research of reservoir core microstructure.

Valve Barrel Position Control Based on Self-Tuning Fuzzy Pid with Particle Swarm Optimization

Abstract

This paper introduced the self-tuning fuzzy PID controller based on particle swarm optimization which aims to gain more precise control over the position of pneumatic proportional valve barrel, where particle swarm works to optimize the membership function, fuzzy rule and PID parameter in fuzzy control. The study fruits also include online optimization of the self-tuning fuzzy PID controller parameters. Comparing to the conventional control methodology, The self-tuning fuzzy PID controller with PSO optimization is proven to show better precision, dynamic performance index and more rapid tracking performance and robustness. To this end, step response was used to compare and analyze the results from the PSO algorithm optimization, providing a pragmatic method of better comprehensive performance for PID parameter optimization.

A Gain Scheduling of PI Controllers of a Multi Span Web Transport System

Abstract

This research aims to address the issue of controlling a multi-span web transport system by an automatic tuning of the PI controllers parameters. The use of multi-span web transport systems often requires dedicating a particular effort for defining a control system able to protect the integrity of the web. The possibility of using PI controllers for each section is attractive considering that an overlapping system decomposition may permit to take into account the mutual interaction of the neighbor sections. In this case, the choice of correct values of the PI parameters becomes crucial for the control performance. Existing fixed gain PI tension control schemes currently used in industrial practice require extensive tuning and do not provide the desired performance for changing operating conditions. This paper describes a simple strategy for automatically selecting the PI parameters of a multi span transport system by using an nonlinear interpolation of the trend of a preliminary calibration. The algorithm is simple and efficient providing fast real-time implementation, since it does not require any data processing. The proposed technique features robustness and simplicity. The implications of this method reside in its applicability in an industrial platform.

Hardware and Software Solution Developed in Arm Mbed Environment for Driving and Controlling DC Brushless Motors Based on ST X-Nucleo Development Boards

Abstract

Aim of this work is the design and realization of a driving system for monitoring and controlling of a BLDC motor with Hall sensors embedded. The realized system is composed by three principal blocks: the control electronic board, the power driving board and the BLDC motor. The first block is based on the STM32 Nucleo development board assembled with the second one, the ST-X-Nucleo-IHM07M1 motor driver expansion board which integrates an L6230 IC driver. The used BLDC motor is the DF45M024053-A2 model provided by Nanotec. The firmware, needed to properly control motor operation, was developed in ARM mbed environment, a development tool available on cloud which allows to send the .bin file (obtained after firmware compilation) directly to the STM32 development board, regarded from operating system, once connected via USB to PC, simply as an external memory. By PC connected via USB with STM32 board, the user can choose the motor rotation direction, set the desired rpm value and, by varying potentiometer value located on board, change the rotation speed. Furthermore, different controls are performed during motor operation such as on PWM duty-cycle value (if it is equal to 100%, then power supply is removed), on temperature value of L6230 IC driver and a control of motor rotation; in this latter case, if BLDC motor is stalled for a time period higher than 3 seconds, then the power supply is interrupted in order to safeguard the motor/system integrity.

Secure Data Storage Mechanism for Integration of Wireless Sensor Networks and Mobile Cloud

Abstract

Together with an explosive growth of the mobile applications and emerging of cloud computing concept, mobile cloud computing (MCC) has been introduced to be a potential technology for mobile services. Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) is the technology that connects the virtual world and the physical world where nodes can autonomously communicate among each other and with intelligent systems. This paper describes the concept of wireless sensor networks and mobile cloud computing. Recently, much research has proposed to integrate wireless sensor networks (WSNs) with mobile cloud computing, so that powerful cloud computing can be exploited to process the sensory data accumulated by WSNs and provide these date to the mobile users on demand. The current WSN-MCC integration schemes have several drawbacks. This paper proposes a data processing framework, which aims at transmitting desired data to the mobile users in a rapid, reliable and even more secure manner. The proposed framework decreases the storage requirements for sensor nodes and networks gateway. And it minimizes the traffic overhead and bandwidth requirement for sensor networks. Additionally, the framework can predict the future trend of sensory data and provide security for this sensory data. This framework ensures the mobile users obtain their desired data faster.

Abstrakt

Abstract

Sensor network is a data-centric network, which provides data collection, storage and query services. Data storage and query is one of the hot spot in the research of sensor networks. In order to solve the problem of low efficiency of storage and query, high energy consumption in sensor networks, we put forward a scheme that storing distributed data of wireless sensor network based on information processing cloud. Information processing cloud is made up of a group of sensor nodes around the network center, which have the ability to absorb and process data from other nodes of sensor network which do not belong to the information processing cloud. The group of sensor nodes around the network center respond data query requests from anywhere of the network, and sensor nodes can be adjusted dynamically according to real situation, the cloud of nodes and non-cloud of nodes can be dynamically transformed as well. When non-cloud of sensor nodes store data or send query request, they only need to do centripetal movement, centrifugal movement or circumfusing movement. The analysis shows that the proposed scheme can simplify route algorithm of data storage and data query, and it also has less computation cost and storage cost than the existing schemes.
