Trichoptera (Insecta) of the Javorníky Mts. (Czech Republic)

Data publikacji: 11 Oct 2020
Zakres stron: 141 - 159

Abstrakt

Abstract

A total of 79 Trichoptera species (43 genera, 16 families) were found in the Javorníky Mts. (Czech Republic), including two Carpathian species, Chaetopteryx polonica Dziedzielewicz, 1889 and Potamophylax carpathicus (Dziedzielewicz, 1912). Two further species, Rhyacophila mocsaryi Klapálek, 1898 and Rhyacophila philopotamoides McLachlan, 1879, have, until recently, only been found in the Carpathian Mts. In addition, eight species that occur infrequently or only locally in the Czech Republic were found, Synagapetus moselyi (Ulmer, 1938), Hydroptila angulata Mosely, 1922, Wormaldia pulla (McLachlan, 1878), Plectrocnemia brevis McLachlan, 1871, Tinodes unicolor (Pictet, 1834), Hydropsyche fulvipes (Curtis, 1834), Beraeamyia hrabei Mayer, 1937 and Ernodes vicinus (McLachlan, 1879). Several of these species are listed in the Red List of threatened invertebrates of the Czech Republic (one as endangered, one vulnerable and seven near threatened).

Abstract

Dolichopodid specimens were collected during a field work in Prešov town in 2019. Systenus slovakiensissp. nov. from anthropogenic habitats is described. Differential diagnoses are given and illustrated. A key to females of Systenus species of the Palearctic is provided. Bombina variegata (Linnaeus, 1758) in rain pools in the Carpathian Mountains (Slovakia)

Data publikacji: 11 Oct 2020
Zakres stron: 165 - 174

Abstrakt

Abstract

Rain pools (pluviotelmata or puddles) are common, small and non-permanent aquatic ecosystems. Data on the use of rain pools by amphibian taxa in the Carpathian Mountains, especially in Slovakia, are rare. In this study we describe the occurrence of Bombina variegata (Linnaeus, 1758), which may use these small aquatic ecosystems as part of their complex life cycle or where they spend their larval period. The most important hydroperiodic factors affecting the vertebrate fauna were the volume and area of the rain pools, the presence (respectively the absence) of shade, water temperature, biotope structure and the presence of several chemical compounds (NO3, GH, KH, pH). This study confirms that micro-habitats, such as rain pools, may play an important role for suitable reproduction sites of B. variegata, as stated by several authors from the different countries and regions of its large distributional range. At the same time, data on the presence or absence of different taxa with important conservation status in the monitored habitat aid in the detection of species.

Distribution and numbers of waterbird species breeding in the city of Wrocław

Data publikacji: 11 Oct 2020
Zakres stron: 175 - 180

Abstrakt

Abstract

During the years 2003-2010, the numbers of pairs of waterbird species breeding in the city of Wrocław (293 km2) were assessed. The city is situated in Odra valley, where four smaller rivers join it. The city abandons in oxbows, gravel and sand, and clay pits and other water bodies. In total, 20 waterbird species were recorded as breeding in Wrocław. The most common were Anas platyrhynchos (145-212 pairs), and Fulica atra (70-104 pairs). Relatively common were also the Gallinula chloropus (28-37 pairs), Rallus aquaticus (9-25 pairs) and Cygnus olor (9-11 pairs). For each remaining species less than 10 pairs were recorded. Among rare species, the following were recorded as breeding in Wrocław: Grus grus, Mergus merganser, and Porzana porzana. In the few recent decades, the increase in the number of breeding pairs was recorded for Anas platyrhynchos and Cygnus olor; while a parallel decrease was recorded for Fulica atra, Gallunula chloropus, Chroicocephalus ridibudnus, and Tachybaptus ruficollis. Species such as the Aythya fuligula, Aythya ferrina, grebes, gulls and terns avoid the city. Some of them even ceased to breed (Anas quarquedula, Anas clypeata and Botaurus stellaris). The city plays an important role in protecting water bird species such as Grus grus, Cygnus olor, Porzana porzana and Alcedo atthis.

Abstract

The Slender-billed Curlew (Numenius tenuirostris) erases of Czech Rarities Committee for Ornithology to December 15, 2011 from Czech bird’s checklist. The first discovery of Othmar Reiser (1861-1936) is located in Cheb in Bohemia, in Czech Republic (50°04′47″N/12°22′26″E; grid square 5940); not in Hungary. Jiří Janda's (1865-1938) locality “from Bohemia”, without precise locality (the evaluation of localities in entomology). Present is reply to emphasize absolutelly scientific competence of Czech zoologist Jiří Janda, personality in Czech and European ornithology.
