Abstract

Tetanops myopina Fallén, 1820 (Diptera: Ulidiidae) is recorded from the Czech Republic for the first time, based on specimens found in the sandpit Závada near Hlučín (grid mapping code 6074). Because T. myopina is generally a maritime species, living on costal sand dunes of the Irish, North and Baltic Seas and partly the Atlantic Ocean (Ireland and Wales only), this surprising record is treated in detail with a description of the microhabitat and a discussion of the biology and biogeography of the species and the historical origin of this inland population

Abstract

Records of meniscus midges (Diptera: Dixidae) are reported from lotic and lentic water bodies with of Slovakia. Midges were sampled during specifically aimed research of ponds (project BIOPOND) or during field works related to various studies of running waters. In total, occurrence of 3 species of genus Dixa and 1 species of genus Dixella are presented and shortly discussed. Record of Dixa dilatata Strobl, 1900 on the basis of adult specimen is reported from Slovakia for the first time.

Abstract

The investigation of Psychodidae is still far from finished in the NW part of the Carpathians of the Czech Republic, only 21 species have been published in scattered papers in the past. Altogether 36 genera of moth flies and 84 species including 20 threatened or rare taxa are recorded in this study from 8 localities: 5 mountainous and 3 submountainous sites. Katamormia niesiolowskii (Wagner, 1985) and Threticus negrobovi Vaillant, 1972 are new for the fauna of the Czech Republic, Katamormia strobli Ježek, 1986 and Philosepedon (Philothreticus) soljani Krek, 1971 are new for Moravia (incl. Silesia); three species are new for the Carpathians Mts generally, and 9 for the Carpathians Mts. of the Czech Republic. The total number of moth flies in CZ is increased to 175 species. The communities of moth flies of the preserved areas and localities studied here (in contrast to Kněhyňka 2.) are among the richest sites in the Czech Republic.

Abstract

In 2009, in the Special Protection Area Natura 2000 ‘Grądy Odrzańskie’ in Czernica and Siechnice counties, Wrocław district, 95 breeding bird species were recorded. For 33 of them, maps of distribution of their breeding pairs are presented and for the remaining a relative abundance was estimated based on line transect method. In 2009, the following species were recorded in the study area for the first time: Cygnus olor, Crex crex, Upupa epops, and Picus canus. On the other hand, 11 species recorded in 1978-87 as breeding in the study area (Ciconia nigra, Pernis apivorus, Milvus migrans, Milvus milvus, Falco tinnunculus, Gallinago gallinago, Limosa limosa, Tringa totanus, Riparia riparia, Anthus campestris, Phoenicurus phoenicurus) were not recorded again in 2009. It has been shown that Saxicola torquata, Ficedula albicollis, Corvus corax and Remiz pendulinus have increased in numbers. The following species recorded in 2009 as breeding in the the study area: Cygnus olr, Ciconia ciconia, Circus aeruginosus, Crex crex, Alcedo atthis, Dryocopus martius, Picus canus, Dendrocopos medius, Lulula arborea, Sylvia nisoria, Ficedula albicollis, Lanius collurio and Emberiza hortulana are included in Annex 1 of the Bird Directive.

Bryofloristic survey of rich fens of the National Nature Monument Jestřebské slatiny (Doksy region, North Bohemia)

Abstract

We present results of the bryofloristic survey of fens and degraded fens of the National Nature Monument ‘Jestřebské slatiny’ - ‘Shnilé louky’, ‘Baronský rybník’ and meadow ‘Pod Konvalinkovým vrchem’. Seventeen species of liverworts and 70 mosses were recorded in course of several visits by the authors, of which four liverworts and three mosses are classified as threatened in the Czech Republic. The most significant record was the re-discovery of a putatively vanished moss of rich fens, Campyliadelphus elodes, at the locality ‘Pod Konvalinkovým vrchem’. Given the regional importance of the record, we performed the revision of herbarium specimens from our country and present the typification of Chrysohypnum elodes var. salinum Podp., described from South Moravia.
