<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">This article presents the process of modernisation of a car lift in order to adjust it to the function of a hoist for lifting the decompression chamber cover in a breathing simulator used in the Department of Underwater Work Technology of the Naval Academy in Gdynia.</abstract>

Modernisation of a Breathing Simulator Hoist. Part 1

<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">The subsequent stages of the process of formulation of the equation for gas adsorption on a homogenous surface of a solid adsorbent were presented based on the general expression for the canonical ensemble of the mobile single-component adsorption monolayer. The method of formulating the configuration integral of the proposed model was discussed in detail where the role both of the attraction and repulsion between adsorbed molecules was emphasised. The expression for the probability of finding a molecule in a specified point on a surface of an adsorbent was modified by determining its magnitude by the adsorbent concentration. The expression for the so-called effective surface of the adsorbent was obtained by adapting a two-dimensional analogue equation of state hard spheres – Van der Waals equation (2D-vdW) and Reis-Frisch-Lebowitz equation accordingly (2D-RFL). As a result, two new adsorption equations were formulated which differ in detail concerning the adsorbate-adsorbate repulsion. On each of these equations theoretical analysis was performed in terms of two-dimensional phase transformation. In both cases it was proved that the proposed solution allows for the presence of two-phase transformations of the first type which is the gas-liquid condensation and solidification liquid-solid. The verification of the given approach was supplemented by the description of the experimental data given in reference literature and by obtaining a very good correlation between the theory and experiment.</abstract>

<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">Diabetes is an “epidemic of the 21st century” and it is estimated that in 2011 6.7% of Poland’s population suffered from diabetes, one quarter of which was unaware of the disease. Such a high prevalence of diabetes mellitus results in an increasing number of physicians being confronted with the problem of qualifying patient with diabetes to partake in amateur sports, including diving. This publication presents the most important information concerning risk assessment, admission of diabetic patients to amateur diving and some proposed protocols of management before and during sport practice.</abstract>

Diabetic Patients Who are Amateur Divers

<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">This paper describes 4 unfortunate accidents caused by the difference in pressure inside and outside the diver’s suit. The issues relate to diver crushing, caisson disease, too fast an ascent to the surface and hypoxia as a result of exhaustion of oxygen in the diving apparatus are explained. The mechanism of the diving injuries was analysed and methods of prevention of such incidents were suggested.</abstract>

Accidents Caused by the Difference in Air Pressure Inside the Diving Apparatus and the Water Surrounding the Diver

<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">This article discusses issues related to safety during kitesurfing (swimming on a board with a kite). The considerations are based on risk management procedures. These procedures can be described interchangeably as managing your own safety. Risk management allows you to minimize threats without sacrificing your planned sport goals. The authors first describe the procedures related to the identification of threats occurring in this discipline. Teaching and practicing kitesurfing involves overcoming a large number of threats. These threats can have both external and internal character. The next stage is risk analysis, understood as the product of negative events and the probability of their occurrence. Afterwards, we discuss the ways of dealing with the threat in the event of its occurrence. The last stage is the risk control (tracking) - whether new threats have emerged, or the level of risk has remained unchanged. The described methodical impacts can be labelled as education for safety.</abstract>

Polish Hyperbaric Research

Why subscribe and read  In the journal one can find a wide range of original, high-value scientific articles from fields unpublished in other journals, which are hyperbaric technology and hyperbaric medicine. Through the publication of a broad base of results of research on major and related research fields of the magazine, Polish Hyperbaric Research provides an excellent platform for the exchange of ideas between scientists, experts and users of the technology. This is particularly valuable idea with the extremely scarce representation of magazines dealing with this issue in Europe (2) and around the world.  A multi Scientific Council representing both the main directions of scientific interest of the magazine and related fields, with affiliations in many countries of the world, whose members are employed in scientific centers, institutes and research centers guarantees a high level of knowledge, but above all an opportunity to present the results of multicenter multidisciplinary research.  The contents of each new issue of the magazine, in addition to original research papers is complemented by descriptions of cases and general outlook works -which is an excellent source of systematic knowledge for recipients - practitioners, students, etc.  The Polish Hyperbaric Research also publishes messages about events relevant to the research community.  Polish Hyperbaric Research is the journal owned and published by the Polish Hyperbaric Medicine and Technology Society.   Why submit  Our magazine prides itself on the fact that the priority of the Editorial Board is a quick and constructive process of reviewing and short deadlines between sending of the article, approval for publication and print. Editing is possible for both English-speaking and non-English speaking authors.  The degree of rejection of work of the mainstream topic, which the PHR is engaged in is not more than 25%.  The articles accepted for printing can contain colorful illustrations and charts as well as the publications of large volume, not accepted in most scientific journals.  Publication fee is 120 PLN per two pages A4, in special cases it is possible to skip the fee. Payment in PHR is charged only from authors after they'r article is alredy publicated. We dont charge fee for the act of processing the article. The amount of payment changes every year. The articles we order are free of charge.  In addition, PHR as the only Polish and one of the few scientific journals in the world gives annual award for science students for successful debut on the pages of the quarterly. This prize is awarded to the author who first published the material in a scientific journal which has achieved good marks in reviews.  It is an encouragement to further fruitful activity for young scientists, who begin their adventure with science. The prize is awarded annually by the decision of the members of the Editorial Committee and the Scientific Council in the form of a commemorative statuette and a promise of free publication of the following article. The award ceremony takes place during the inauguration of the annual scientific conference of the publisher i.e. Polish Society of Hyperbaric Medicine and Technology.
