Developing Vehicle Locations Strategy on Urban Road

Data publikacji: 22 Nov 2017
Zakres stron: 253 - 262

Abstrakt

Abstract

Various forecasting schemes have been proposed to manage urban road traffic data, which is collected by different sources such as, videos cameras, sensors and mobile phone services. However, these are not sufficient for the purpose because of their limited coverage and high costs of installation and maintenance. This paper describes urban road congestion as a resource assignment problem in urban areas, in which vehicles are assigned to available sections of road. In order to accomplish this and reduce road congestion, an estimation of the vehicle location is needed. Different strategies for estimating location have been proposed, such as the use of Wi-Fi and cellular systems, and GPS/GNSS. In this process, accuracy plays an important role. Therefore, to increase the accuracy of the primary GNSS system, an augmentation system is considered.

Evaluation of Alternatives to Integrate Special Transportation Services for People with Movement Disorders

Data publikacji: 22 Nov 2017
Zakres stron: 263 - 274

Abstrakt

Abstract

Integrating the most appropriate special transportation service for people with movement disorders model may result in great economy efficiency and social benefit balance. However, most existing researches are based on improving the accessibility of public transport services or development of routing and scheduling under stochastic input data. The aim of this paper is to project the evaluation algorithm for the purpose of assessing the appropriate model of integration which would enable the employment of existing resources and filling the gap in assurance the mobility needs of people with mobility impairments. This paper identifies the evaluation indicators which are selected from international publications. Firstly the performance indicators of special transportation services were selected, further the sustainable development of public transport services evaluation indicators were selected, classified and adjusted to the goal of this paper. As a final result of indicators selection, a set of indicators classified into two groups - cost and benefit - was carried out. The decision making is based on Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process and Fuzzy Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution methods. A case study is provided to demonstrate the application of proposed evaluation algorithm.

Criteria System of Emergency Situations Risks Assessment in the Baltic Sea Ports

Data publikacji: 22 Nov 2017
Zakres stron: 275 - 281

Abstrakt

Abstract

This paper reviews the principles of transportation risk assessment in the Baltic Sea ports and hinterland. The essential steps of assessment are the identification of primary criterions, the determining the underlying criterion groups and quantitative assessment of international environment indicators and nature, infrastructure indicators and organizational indicators on the basis of the multiple-criteria evaluation methods. Designed system of criteria creates a possibility for objective evaluation of risk management processes and allows planning objectively long-term risk management strategy in the ports according to certain economic development circumstances.

Macro-Level Modeling of Urban Transportation Safety: Case-Study of Mashhad (Iran)

Data publikacji: 22 Nov 2017
Zakres stron: 282 - 288

Abstrakt

Abstract

Transportation safety can be aimed at the planning stage in order to adopt safety management and evaluate the long-time policies. The main objective of this research was to make use of crash prediction models in urban transportation planning process. As such, it was attempted to gather data on the results of transportation master plan as well as Mashhad urban crash database. Two modelling method, generalized linear model with negative binomial distribution and geographically weighted regression, were considered as the methods used in this research. Trip variables, including trip by car, trip by bus, trip by bus services and trip by school services, were significant at 95%. The results indicated that both finalized models were competent in predicting urban crashes in Mashhad. Regarding to results urban transportation safety will be improved by changing the modal share for example from private car to bus. The application of the process presented in this study can improve the urban transportation safety management processes and lead to more accurate prediction in terms of crashes across urban traffic areas.

Using Deficit Functions for Crew Planning in Aviation

Data publikacji: 22 Nov 2017
Zakres stron: 289 - 296

Abstrakt

Abstract

We use deficit functions (DFs) to decompose an aviation schedule of aircraft flights into a minimal number of periodic and balanced chains (flight sequences). Each chain visits periodically a set S of airports and is served by several cockpit crews circulating along the airports of this set. We introduce the notion of ”chunks” which are a sequence of flights serviced by a crew in one day according to contract regulations. These chunks are then used to provide crew schedules and rosters. The method provides a simplicity for the construction of aircraft schedules and crew pairings which is absent in other approaches to the problem.

Real-Time Video Surveillance System for Traffic Management with Background Subtraction Using Codebook Model and Occlusion Handling

Data publikacji: 22 Nov 2017
Zakres stron: 297 - 306

Abstrakt

Abstract

The scope of this paper is a video surveillance system constituted of three principal modules, segmentation module, vehicle classification and vehicle counting. The segmentation is based on a background subtraction by using the Codebooks method. This step aims to define the regions of interest associated with vehicles. To classify vehicles in their type, our system uses the histograms of oriented gradient followed by support vector machine. Counting and tracking vehicles will be the last task to be performed. The presence of partial occlusion involves the decrease of the accuracy of vehicle segmentation and classification, which directly impacts the robustness of a video surveillance system. Therefore, a novel method to handle the partial occlusions based on vehicle classification process have developed. The results achieved have shown that the accuracy of vehicle counting and classification exceeds the accuracy measured in some existing systems.

An Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Company: A Stochastic Model of Resources Overbooking

Data publikacji: 22 Nov 2017
Zakres stron: 316 - 323

Abstrakt

Abstract

In connection with the rapid development of commerce of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), the optimality of their use with UAV companies (UAVCo) is becoming increasingly important. The basis of such companies are mobile units (mobile units (MU)), which include UAV, means of their delivery to the place of rendering services and maintenance personnel. A problem of determining the optimal level of orders for the use of MU with UAVCo has been formulated and solved. The task is formulated as an overbooking task. The process under investigation is described as a discrete-time Markov chain corresponding to 24 hours. Based on a fixed number of MU and a fixed overbooking level, distributions for the number of orders on hand, the number of unfulfilled customs, and the average income with an MU usage fee and penalties for unfulfilled orders factored in have been calculated. The solution method has been tested on a particular model. For calculation used language and computer environment MathCAD.

Methodology of Evaluation of the Impact of Picking Area Location on the Total Costs of Warehouse

Data publikacji: 22 Nov 2017
Zakres stron: 332 - 344

Abstrakt

Abstract

The picking system and the layout of the picking area are the key drivers for the evaluation of a warehouse picking cost. There are five variants for organizing the picking process of orders in a warehouse. The choice of a specific variant depends on the total cost of picking. The picking cost is evaluated within an uninterrupted picking process. It means that no stock out occurs in the time period of the picking process. The storing area and the picking area are created as two separate zones for picking quantities of the customer’s orders; the principle of division of orders is observed strictly. Referring to the locations of stock keeping units (SKU), two approaches of the layout of SKU in the picking area can be estimated. The first one is the single picking location for each single SKU, where replenishment is realized in the picking process. The second one - various picking locations for each single SKU, and the replenishment here is realized just only prior to a picking process or after it. The main benefits of the economy of the picking cost as far as these two approaches are concerned are the shortest picking route in the first case and one common replenishment option in the second case.
