Load Monitoring Solutions for the Smart Buildings – An Overview
Pages: 1 - 6
Résumé
The development of intelligent smart grids requires new electrical monitoring solutions in order to optimize power consumption. The implementation of intelligent energy-monitors leads to new technical developments to optimize consumption using intrusive and non-intrusive techniques. This paper makes a review of the main methods used for load monitoring systems, indicating their advantages and disadvantages. The emergence of high-harmonic consumer electronics in electrical networks such as LED lighting sources implies the choice of the appropriate method and equipment for optimizing energy consumption based on energy signatures.

Résumé
The concept of cogeneration defines the simultaneous production with the same installation of electric and thermal energy (in the form of hot water or steam). High-efficiency cogeneration implies that cogeneration production should ensure primary energy savings of at least 10% compared to the reference values of separate production of electricity and heat. This paper presents the process of functioning of a cogeneration plant, operating in the Suceava county, Romania, referring to the actual values regarding the consumption and the proportions of the raw material on the one hand and the energy produced on the other. It also describes the entire production process as well as the impact on the environment, the social and economic aspects of the implementation of such a project.

Résumé
This article deals with developing new modified algorithms of 40kb/s ADPCM. Beside the standard algorithm, three algorithms are developed to reduce the ADPCM distortion. The performances of all algorithms are evaluated with QAM signal at speed of 9.6kb/s. The outcomes demonstrate that the first proposed algorithm outperforms the other algorithms.

Raspberry Pi Based Microscope Camera with Wireless Functionality
Pages: 37 - 39
Résumé
The paper proposes the development of a wireless video camera that is used to capture images from any microscope, and is universally compatible with the standard C-Mount. The purpose behind developing this camera is to offer an economical alternative to the current high-priced microscopy camera without compromising performance. In addition this camera has the technology to work wirelessly.

Résumé
The CNC (Computer numerical control) is a machine that processes different kinds of materials at different types of precisions, determined by the system used to realize the transmission from the motor to the axes. In our project, we used the screw nut transmission because it offers a great precision and it has an optimal price-quality ratio.

Résumé
The project aims at creating a monitoring and control circuit in a desktop or complex system with the possibility to set the operating parameters. The project allows automatic and manual control of a certain number of fans using Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control by the user or automatically by the system monitoring thresholds of minimum and average temperatures (also set by the user within the code). The system was designed with the following options: audible and visual alert when reaching maximum temperatures; time display, PWM percentage and three temperatures shown on a 16x2 LCD; the system-acquired data is then transmitted to a website. Additional features include the possibility of setting a color inside the system, also used as an alert as well as a color adjustment function by sound (for a musical lightshow). The mode of operation is based on the source code written in the Arduino IDE 1.6.3 software with the help of free libraries and free codes provided on the internet.

Résumé
Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) have been developed as the human-body monitoring systems to predict, diagnose, and treat diseases. Since the signal transmission in WBANs takes place in or around the human body the channel fading significantly affects packet error rate and overall network performance. This paper focuses on the design and demonstration of an ultra-wideband (UWB) modem to be used in the WBAN applications, and the evaluation of its performance over Rayleigh fading channel. Results show how the fading channel affects the performance of the system.

Functionality Extension for A D.C. Motor Speed Control Didactic System with PID Controller
Pages: 59 - 62
Résumé
The paper describes some functionality extensions for a D.C. motor speed control system with PID controller used as a didactic unit. The extensions are made in two directions: one at a physical-hardware level and the other one at software development of numerical algorithms and graphical interface. Both developments have the aim to extend and to get a more flexible paradigm for the control algorithms study on both continuous and discrete approach and to add the possibility to compare different control solutions.

Résumé
The paper proposes the development of a weather station made up from a Raspberry Pi 3 and the Sense Hat shield. The shield used in this application has sensors for temperature, humidity and pressure. The weather station can connect to the internet wirelessly or with a standard UTP (Unshielded twisted pair) connection, this connection gives us the ability to take part in a scientific community for the sole purpose to monitor the weather all around the world. The program for the weather station is made in Python, the program language is easy to used and very versatile.
