The growing complexity of global security threats, including climate change and geopolitical conflicts, demands advanced monitoring solutions. The Copernicus Earth Observation (EO) program offers high-resolution satellite data to enhance security applications such as border surveillance, disaster response, and environmental monitoring. This paper offers an overview of space-based earth observation capabilities, and the role of Copernicus, in improving real-time threat detection and response. A case study on Romania’s northern border surveillance is presented, demonstrating how EO data supports decision-making in crisis management and enhances situational awareness for security operations.
