<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

In this study, the antifungal activity of cell-free supernatant (CFS) of <italic>Lactobacillus</italic> spp. (<italic>Lactobacillus plantarum</italic> CCM 1904; L81, <italic>Lactobacillus fermentum</italic>; 2I3, <italic>Lactobacilus reuteri</italic>; 2/6, L26;) and <italic>Bacillus</italic> spp. (<italic>Bacillus subtilis</italic> CCM 2794, <italic>Bacillus licheniformis</italic> CCM 2206) against two strains of <italic>Fusarium graminearum</italic> CCM F-683 and <italic>Fusarium graminearum</italic> CCM 8244 were investigated <italic>in vitro</italic>. All tested CFS of <italic>Lactobacillus</italic> spp. were able to inhibit the growth of both strains of <italic>Fusarium graminearum</italic>. The highest inhibitory effect (IE) (56.5 %) against <italic>F. graminearum</italic> CCM F-683 was observed for CFS <italic>Lactobacillus fermentum</italic> (2I3) at the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) (2.25 ± 0.56 mg.ml–1). CFS of <italic>Lactobacillus reuteri</italic> (2/6) showed the best IE (40.0 %) against <italic>F. graminearum</italic> CCM 8244 (2/6) at the MIC 1.25 mg.ml–1. However, no inhibitory effect of <italic>Bacillus subtilis</italic> and <italic>Bacillus licheniformis</italic> CFS against both strains of <italic>F. graminearum</italic> were observed, even at the highest tested concentration of 5.0 mg.ml–1.
