Folia Veterinaria is an open access, peer reviewed international scientific journal issued by the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice, Slovakia. The first Volume of this journal was issued in 1956.The journal is published quarterly in English. The aim of the journal is to disseminate innovative, basic and applied research in all aspects of animal science with special emphasis on the most current topics and serve as a platform for the promotion of scientific exchange between scientists and veterinary practitioners and the public involved in various areas of animal health and welfare. The journal builds on the “One world, one health” concept in the areas of veterinary and human medicine, healthy food and the environment. It provides a forum for reporting news and advances related to prevention and treatment of animal diseases and risks to public health, hygiene and environmental considerations that prevent spreading of diseases and support sustainable development.
The journal welcomes submission of original studies, case studies and review articles in a wide range of scientific fields with a focus on animal science and veterinary science, including reproduction, breeding, genetics, physiology, nutrition, feed science, meat science, animal welfare, ethics and law, animal behaviour, endocrinology and metabolism, veterinary nursing, veterinary education, veterinary epidemiology, veterinary public health, livestock management and production, poultry science, equine science, bovine science, small ruminants, camelids, aquaculture, fisheries science, zoo animal management, zoo animal clinical studies, conservation where there is a veterinary or animal science aspect, and wild animal diseases. Other fields of interest are not excluded from consideration, especially environmental aspects related to survival and spreading of pathogenic microorganisms, particularly the zoonotic ones.
Any manuscript submitted to Folia Veterinaria journal must be original and the manuscript, or substantial parts of it, must not be under consideration by any other journal.

The journal is an Open Access journal that allows a free unlimited access to all its contents without any restrictions upon publication to all users.
Article Processing Charge (APC)
The journal does not have article processing charges (APCs) nor article submission charges.
Peer Review
Type: Editorial/Open Peer-Review
Minimum number of reviewers: 2 (selected by the advisory editorial board). If the manuscript is rejected by one of the original 2 reviewers, a third reviewer is appointed.
Average time for submission to first decision: 4 weeks
Reviewers use a score sheet to rate submissions (yes-average-no) and provide relevant comments (1. Suitability for publication; 2. Originality; 3. Overall quality of the manuscript; 4. Contribution to the relevant field; 5. Presentation; 6. Suitability of figures/photographs; 7. Presentation of results, are they repeated in tables and text. 8. Is the title descriptive and succint; 9. Abstract – adequate description of the core content of the paper; 10. References – relevance, significance.
Journal editors do not rate reviewers.
Authors have to acknowledge that there is no conflict of interest and the submission adheres to relevant ethical standards.
Type of decisions possible: accept without revision; minor revision/major revision; reject (scientifically incorrect; results do not correspond adequately to scientific interests)
All papers are subjected to English-language editing by a native English speaker with good knowledge in a wide range of scientific fields with focus on veterinary sciences.

User Rights - Authors and the publisher are allowed to use the article also for commercial rights.
