Review Process

The Zagreb International Review of Economics & Business (ZIREB) adheres to a stringent double-blind peer-review procedure, maintaining the anonymity of both authors and reviewers throughout the process. This review policy is characterized by a sequence of precise steps:

  1. Initial Manuscript Submission: Authors submit their manuscripts to the journal’s web page, ensuring that all identifying information, such as author names, affiliations, and acknowledgments, is removed from the document.
  2. Editorial Assessment: The journal's Editor-in-Chief conducts an initial assessment to check if the manuscript adheres to the journal's scope and guidelines. If any details are inadvertently left in the document, the manuscript may be returned to the authors for correction. The editorial assessment phase lasts approximately 3 weeks.
  3. Assignment of Reviewers: After the decision to review the article Editor-in-Chief selects the thematically appropriate Associate Editor, who receives a notification from the Editorial Manager system that the review process should begin. Minimum of two reviewers is necessary to make a decision.
  4. Distribution of a Manuscript: Reviewers are notified by e-mail of an invitation to review a manuscript. If they select the “Agreed” hyperlink, they receive an additional e-mail that contains a link to the Editorial Manager system. The reviewer confirms the absence of a conflict of interest when agreeing to review (based on the available abstract). Should he/she indicate a conflict of interest, the Associate Editor appoints another reviewer. The process of appointing reviewers takes about two weeks. Authors, by logging into the system, know at what stage their manuscript is.
  5. Reviewing Process: Reviewers assess the manuscript's quality, methodology, significance, and validity of results. They provide constructive feedback and recommend whether the manuscript should be accepted, revised, or rejected. The time to prepare a review is 3 months. In addition to completing the review form and confirming the absence of a conflict of interest, reviewers make an unambiguous recommendation by selecting one of the options: Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, or Reject. Associate Editor also gives comments, remarks and recommendations to the article taking into account the quality and relevance with respect to ZIREB standards.
  6. Author Revisions: Authors, after receiving two anonymous reviews, are asked to revise the manuscript within the set time (for minor revision 1 month, for major revision 3 months), and return the revised version with responses for each reviewer. The changes should be marked with a different color or in a change mode. Also, a separate document detailing changes made to the paper is submitted to the Editorial Manager system.
  7. Reviewers and Associate Editor Decision: After the first round of reviews, Associate Editors and /or reviewers evaluate the revisions/corrections made by the author(s). They decide whether the revised manuscript can be accepted. If revisions are not sufficient, a second round (and more if needed) of the review process follows. The second round takes place when reviews require major revision or are extremely different, e.g., reject and minor revision. In such cases, the Associate Editor appoints an additional reviewer.
  8. Final Decision and Publication: The final decision on acceptance for publication is made by the Editor-in-Chief after taking into account all recommendations. Once accepted, the manuscript undergoes final editing and formatting before being published. The corresponding Author is contacted via e-mail by the Technical Editor. The author accepts proofreading and final technical editing.
