Die EU vor der Erweiterung: Sicherheitspolitische Prioritäten für die Wirtschaftsstandorte Deutschland und Österreich

The EU's international environment did not face a sudden change in 2022, but long-term processes of change became more visible since then. The Russian war of aggression is a wake-up call for the EU to finally overcome its geopolitical naivety, if it wants to remain competitive at the global level and maintain its attractiveness as a business location. Economic policy and geopolitics must be considered together. At the Wiener Dialog zur Zukunft Europas 2024, experts discussed initiatives for the EU to respond to the BRICS+, to complete a defence union and to address current challenges of enlargement and energy policy. We summarise the problem analyses and policy recommendations for the German and Austrian governments to set the agenda at the beginning of the EU's new institutional cycle.
