The interview recordings, transcripts, and photographs from which this essay is based were collected in the home studio of Mrs Zhao Huaizhu. All fieldwork materials are retained by The Material Culture and Heritage Studies Laboratory housed at Indiana University’s Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology.
