The purpose of this article is to try to answer the question: are the drug tests and general sobriety tests – employer’s control tools – a convenient solution to prevent the abuse of alcohol and other prohibited substances in the workplace? The authors of the article made a brief overview of these psychoactive substances that, according to statistics, are most used by addicted people in Poland. They reviewed the control tools allowed by the legislator at the employer’s disposal in order to confirm suspicions about the employee. They also talk about the importance of disclosing sensitive and private employee data as a result of an inspection. The article draws attention to the problem of alcoholism and drug abuse and attempts to counteract these behaviours, especially in the workplace. The paper is expected to contribute to the reflection on the validity, usefulness, accuracy and sequence of implemented solutions.
