Grey Building Blocks and Brueghel: The Canvas of Romania Painted by Mircea Dinescu

Zacytuj

“Prin oraşul păscut de tramvaie / unde grâul e doar musafir” (“In the city cropped by the tramways / where the wheat is only a host”): be it in the urban or the rural space (or in a combination of both), Mircea Dinescu shows the social and political history of Romania with a bittersweet, playful and scathing view. Among his stylistic achievements we can find the creation of a genuine poetic language that breaks in the Romanian literature at the end of the 20th century. In his verses, life and its contraries (death, dictatorships) come together in a mosaic that constantly engages in dialogue with painting, more precisely, with Brueghel.
