<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>The names in Amaranthaceae published by R. de Visiani are investigated. <italic>Amaranthus gangeticus</italic> var. <italic>cuspidatus</italic> is a <italic>nomen nudum</italic> and thus invalid according to Art. 38.1a of the ICN. <italic>Amaranthus hierichuntinus</italic>, <italic>Atriplex patula</italic> var. <italic>hastifolia</italic>, and <italic>Chenopodium album</italic> var. <italic>oblongum</italic> are lectotypified, respectively, on a specimen preserved at PAD, and illustrations by Scopoli and Vahl. We here propose to synonymyze the three names (new synonymies) respectively with <italic>Amaranthus graecizans</italic> subsp. <italic>graecizans</italic>, <italic>Atriplex patula</italic> subsp. <italic>patula</italic>, and the type subspecies of <italic>C. album</italic>. For nomenclatural purposes, also the name <italic>C. lanceolatum</italic> Willd. (heterotypic synonym of <italic>C. album</italic> subsp. <italic>album</italic>) is investigated and lectotypified, on a specimen preserved at B.</p></abstract>
