The goal of this research is to find out if the Academic Self-Regulation can predict the Academic Performance of Grade 11 students enrolled in the subject Disciplines and Ideas in the Applied Social Sciences by analyzing the Regression Model. In this study, the Quantitative-Descriptive method was used. The results revealed that: a) Identified Regulation is the highest while the Intrinsic Motivation is the lowest; b) there is a significant difference in the academic performance of the students, female students have higher grades compared to males; c) there is no significant difference in the self-regulation of the students; d) significant difference exists within the self-regulations so Post Hoc Analysis was employed; e) based on Bonferroni post host test there is no significant difference between Introjected Regulation and Intrinsic Motivation; f) the overall regression model is not statistically significant to predict the Academic Performance of the students.

Education has an essential place and influence on the future and current economy and society in general. Understanding the mechanisms of value co-creation in the education environment is therefore of paramount importance for improving the quality of educational services. Value co-creation focuses on the interaction with the learner with the aim of better academic performance and students’ satisfaction. This paper presents areas in which value co-creation is applied in higher education institutions and the results of its implementation, both for universities and students. Value co-creation promotes and enhances the interaction between educational institutions and students and seems to have a positive impact not only on academic performance, but also on students’ satisfaction and engagement levels. The process of value co-creation allows educational units and students to work together to optimise their experience and enhance their ability to actively participate in the educational process.

Problem-based and inquiry-based learning, are excellent opportunities for improving, perfecting and modernizing the educational process. In this regard, the aim of the paper is to present in more detail the application of the problem-based and inquiry-based learning in the teaching of nature and society (as the subject is named in primary schools of Republic of Srpska), as well as the similarities and differences, i.e. the border that separates these two methods of acquiring knowledge, while highlighting the difficulties that may report during their implementation. The paper is of a theoretical nature, based on the findings of eminent authors who are experts in the given field of education, and it also contains examples for lessons which are self-created. The purpose of the paper is to help teachers in preparing and conducting this type of nature and society lessons and to encourage the improvement of the learning process. The differences between the models are that problem-based learning is somewhat narrower and is directed towards finding solutions according to clearly defined steps, while inquiry learning is more directed towards fulfilling the human need for discovery, and encourages students to make exploring the world around them their lifestyle. From the above, it can be seen that it is necessary to pay attention to several aspects in order to make the class as high quality as possible, so that the role of the teacher remained unsurpassed, regardless of how independent the students were in learning.

Problem-based and Inquiry-based learning in the Teaching of Nature and Society

This paper presents a theoretical perspective on the relationship between personality and self-regulated learning, by trying to study deeper the understanding of the relationship between the two constructs, based on the results of previous studies. Given the fact that the literature on the relationship between personality traits and the use of self-regulated learning strategies in the school environment is quite limited, we want to enrich the literature on this topic by summarizing a few relevant research results in this field. This paper includes a theoretical approach of the personality and self-regulated learning, by presenting their specifics and an analysis of the relationships between them, by synthesizing the results of a series of studies that have studied this relationship. The analyzed studies present various results, but most of them claim that personality traits represent important predictors of self-regulated learning and academic results. The results of the analyzed studies support especially the importance of conscientiousness as a predictor of self-regulated learning, being considered by some authors the most important component of personality. However, some studies have also identified positive relationships between extraversion, openness, neuroticism and agreeableness, and the use of self-directed learning strategies.

Several authors draw attention to implicit or explicit messages about the real world, aspects that we probably think less about when choosing a story to read to young children. Examples of behavioural antimodels can be easily captured by a competent pedagogue or parent in narrative writings such as fairy tales or stories belonging to well-known writers from the international and Romanian literature. The present study envisages a qualitative investigative approach, based on semi-structured interviews, aiming to explore parents’ perceptions regarding the effect of preschoolers’ exposure to stereotypes and verbal and behavioural aggression found in many of the traditional fairy tales and most circulated stories. The results of the study were compiled by investigating the responses of the 12 participants (N=12) based on three dimensions of analysis. Thus, a first dimension focused on the vision of the effects of aggression present in literary texts on children and the way to manage passages marked by violence. The second dimension sought to identify the opinion of the parents interviewed in relation to the possible consequences of the repeated exposure of children to clichés and stereotypes. The last unit of analysis aimed to picture the participants’ beliefs regarding the need to harmonize the subjects of fairy tales and stories heard by preschoolers to the current lifestyle of today’s society. The end of the paper includes a series of discussions with reference to the educational implications, limitations of the study and future research directions.

Children’s exposure to aggression and stereotypes presented in fairy tales

This study aims to describe the history of the Deli Malay and its current existence as one of the major ethnic groups in Indonesia. During the Dutch colonial period, Deli was famous for its tobacco plantations, even the practice of real contract coolies existed in Deli. Deli Malay is inseparable from other Malay sub-Malays in Indonesia as well as in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam. Only the characteristics of the Malay Deli remain and have contributed a lot to the progress of the Indonesian state to date. Like the Deli Malay civilization also produced cultural icons, especially the Maimun Palace and the Al-Mashun Grand Mosque. These two historic buildings are evidence of the greatness and existence of the Deli Malay civilization in North Sumatra. In addition, the most obvious is the Malay language which is used as the national language of Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam, as well as several other Malay countries. Likewise, the system of royal government originating from Bustanussalatin, became a guide for Islamic Sultanates throughout the archipelago. Including traditional Malay clothing such as the cap, songkok or skullcap, became part of Indonesia’s national dress.

Research notes a significant rise in varied practices of abusive supervision within the schooling context. Abusive leadership is a social justice dilemma which needs sustained confrontation. This qualitative conceptual study provides a philosophical exploration of the practices of abusive school leadership towards teachers with dissenting voices. This paper takes a conceptual methodological approach and deploys dominant social justice theories espoused by Miranda Fricker and Nancy Fraser as underpinning lenses. Extant and established scholarly literature on abusive supervision was identified and critically analysed. In its examination, the guiding research question was: what are the attributes of abusive school leadership and how do such leadership react to voices that are dissenting? This study is significant because there seem to be inadequate scholarly and empirical contributions on abusive school leadership practices towards teacher dissenting voices.

A high-performing academic education system supports the development of skills such as curiosity and creativity in students’ activities and learning experiences. However, the academic curriculum gives quite a lot of importance to the accumulation of knowledge and the learning of specific skills, which can encourage an education that is less oriented towards the development of creativity and curiosity, especially in the discipline of History. Our study has as target group the 3rd year students of the Pedagogy of Primary and Preschool Education, whom we monitored during two academic years. The purpose of the research is to analyze the effect of the didactic strategy on students’ creative thinking and to show that creativity is a fundamental element for the development of their historical thinking as students and future practitioners. In our approach, we started from the following premises and hypotheses: 1) creativity is present in all learning contexts, although it is not always specified as such; 2) students need to be creative in a constantly changing world that requires us to permanently adapt; 3) outside of those disciplines that explicitly emphasize creativity (fine arts, music etc.) creativity is rarely present in the discussions regarding teaching and learning; 4) if at History we apply a series of strategies to stimulate creative thinking that includes interactive methods, diverse teaching aids and mixed organizational forms which involve cooperation, then students’ creativity, curiosity and interest in this subject will be stimulated. Therefore, we proposed the following objectives: (O1) The implementation of didactic strategies that stimulate students’ creativity; (O2) The analysis of the results - how does the didactic strategy affect creative thinking in the history discipline? (O3) The analysis and evaluation of the effect that the didactic strategy may have on creativity at History. The expected results are, in the case of students, an increase in creativity through the application of certain didactic strategies, motivation for learning and positive attitudes towards history, with the belief that when they become teachers they will apply similar strategies in the classroom.

Teamwork skills are considered essential for personal, academic and professional achievement, so universities are increasingly integrating them into their syllabuses. Within this context, teamwork skills have been gaining close attention, as they are considered essential competencies in an increasingly more globalised, dynamic and complex world. New employees are asked if they have teamwork skills, can resolve specific work issues or have the required skills to handle the new challenges posed by today’s society. In this study, we aimed to investigate the differences between students regarding their demographic characteristics (age category, education level) according to the level of development of their teamwork skills. The results revealed statistically significant differences between the different categories of students and the level of development of teamwork skills. It is important that teamwork skills are developed from the years of undergraduate studies. Both in our sample, but also in other studies from the literature, these students obtain low scores for this competence.These results can be used to create training programs for teachers and students in the development of teamwork skills.

Upon passing matric, countless students choose to study further at Technical and Vocational Training Colleges (TVETs). Nevertheless, some of these students seem to be unable to attain the qualification that they studied for as they struggle with placements for Work Integrated Learning (WIL), which is a requirement for completion of the qualification. Various research has been done investigating the importance of WIL in enhancing student employability and the acquisition of practical skills; however, few have focused on the placement of students in employment centers. This study’s objective was to investigate the challenges that the selected TVET college faces when placing students. This research study adopted a qualitative research methodology. A case study design and constructivism approach were used. Data were collected through open-ended interviews and focus groups. Purposive and snowball sampling techniques were used. The study revealed that there was an elephant in the room. The students faced challenges such as a lack of funding, personnel shortages, geographic location of the colleges, etc. that led to other challenges, as explained in the study. The study concluded that the college had various challenges in placing students for WIL, and thus they had a huge backlog. These range from inconsistency in placement, the inability to prepare and guide students before and during placement, a lack of support, and a lengthy waiting period. A number of recommendations, such as a complete overhaul of the WIL placement process, the recruitment of competent personnel, and widening the pool of funders to fast-track the process and minimize the backlog, are suggested.

Elephant in the room: Placing of Technical and Vocational Training College students for work-integrated learning in Eastern Cape Province

The present study aims to identify the types of students’ roles in work teams for different didactic activities in the academic environment. In the study, a questionnaire was applied that measures teamwork styles, a questionnaire that includes three scales: leader, doer, thinker and carer, each scale with 10 items. This studiy was attended by 195 female students pursuing bachelor’s and master’s studies in the field of educational sciences, between the ages of 18 and 55. The hypothesis underlying this study presupposes the existence of a statistically significant difference between students from the bachelor program and students from the master’s program according to the types of roles within the teams formed by them. The results of the study indicated that teamwork styles such as career thinking and work style are more defined in master’s students than in undergraduate students, and the other work styles are better defined in undergraduate students than in master’s students. In conclusion, the objective of the study was achieved.

The advent and development of technologies such as artificial intelligence have created benefits and challenges for educational stakeholders. Artificial intelligence, such as OpenAI’s Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer (ChatGPT), has brought new benefits, challenges and pressures for higher educational institutions. There are relatively few reports of how students perceive and intend to use ChatGPT. Taking cognizance of these, the research explored students’ perceptions and intentions to use ChatGPT in their higher education. Guided by two hypotheses and a mixed-method approach, the analysis revealed no statistical relationship between perception and intention to use ChatGPT. Despite this statistical relationship, the study reported students’ positive perceptions towards ChatGPT, and intentions to use ChatGPT and advocated its adoption in education. Based on these findings, the study offers implications for educational practices and further research.

The pandemic period brought major changes in terms of the teaching-learning process in the university education system and represented an experience both for teachers and students. This study investigates the views, difficulties faced by students while attending online courses and seminars, but also disadvantages and benefits. In order to carry out the study, a questionnaire with several items aimed at achieving clear objectives was applied. The study was attended by 70 students from the PIPP specialization, bachelor’s cycle, who attended the online courses in a percentage of over 50%. The analysis captured various results regarding the way of teaching-learning in the online system, which indicates that most of the students in the research lean towards learning in a physical format, and only in exceptional cases online, among the causes or difficulties identified being the weak Internet connection, lack of concentration and focus of attention in classes caused by various disturbing factors in the home environment, difficulties in understanding the classes, the impossibility of physical participation in practice activities.

Lecturers in Nigerian universities, according to literature, are subjected to challenging workplace conditions that tends to inhibit their performance and subsequently, their ability to achieve the teaching, research and community development service functions of their job description. It, therefore, becomes pertinent that the work performance of lecturers be analysed to either support or negate existing literature on the subject matter. This study is qualitative in nature and data was gathered through in-depth interview schedule from nine universities across Southwestern Nigeria (three Federal universities, three State universities and three Private universities). Three face-to-face individual interviews were held with academic staff who were Heads of Department and/or Deans in each of the selected universities giving a total of 27 of such interviews.Data were analysed using content analysis. The study found out that there are hinderances surrounding the work performance of lecturers particularly in terms of efficiency, effectiveness and productivity due to challenging poor working conditions such as erratic power supply, increased workload, absence of certain office facilities and lack of research funds. This study thus supports existing literature.

This study aims to describe peace tourism involving youth to fill the peacebuilding gap after the Ambon-Maluku conflict. Peace tourism in many places focuses on the role of the private sector, government, and the international community without involving youth. Polarization in society strengthened due to the presidential elections of the Republic of Indonesia in 2014 and 2019, and the Jakarta governor election in 2017, thus exacerbating the peacebuilding gap. This research uses qualitative research with a case study approach. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, document analysis, and literature study. The results of the study show that the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) together with national and local institutions carried out peace tourism on January 25–30, 2018. They chose 120 youth, and 82.5% came from outside Maluku Province. Peace tourism involves visiting locations where conflicts occur and attending the 35th world peace gong. For example, the Red-White Bridge, <italic>Batu Merah,</italic> and <italic>Passo</italic> villages were discussed with Islamic and Christian leaders, journalists, youth communities that care about peace, and others. During peace tourism, youth are enthusiastic about learning about the history of conflict and influencing communities to restore social relations. After the peace tour, they return to their area to become peacekeepers. Unfortunately, this program is not sustainable.
