<abstract><title style='display:none'>Abstract</title> Objective: Measurement of activity and participation related outcomes play an important role in rehabilitation of low back pain. Therefore the „Patient Specific Functional Scale»(PSFS) was developed to assess individual, patient related activities. The aim of this study is the cultural adaptation and validation of the PSFS for German speaking countries.Method: A cultural translation and adaptation process was carried out in accordance with standardized guidelines. The internal and external responsiveness and the construct validity adjustment to the German version pertaining to patients with lumbar back pain was examined in comparison to the «Oswestry Disability Index»(ODI).Results: In both groups the PSFS proved itself to be more sensitive in comparison to the ODI. The internal responsiveness of ODI improved ES= -0.75), (non-improved ES= -0.38). PSFS (improved ES= 1.96), (non-improved ES 0.77). The external responsiveness of ODI (AUC= 0.59), of PSFS (AUC= 0.83) (P= 0.0068). Constructs of both measurement instruments have a weak and a moderate correlation on measuring point 1 (r= -0.28) and 2 (r= -0.58).Conclusion: The German version of PSFS proves itself to be a feasible model and a method of high sensitivity in evaluating changes in the functional ability of patients with lumbar back pain. The instrument can be recommended to be used in clinical practice.</abstract>

This article presents the educational system of the health professions in Austria and the initial situation for their academization. It also shows the facilitating and hindering factors that have led to the current status quo. Current figures provide an overview of the statistical development; it draws an overall positive conclusion of the process and status of the academization of the health care professions in Austria. However, essential steps still need to be taken for the consequent implementation of the entire Bologna cycle with consecutive master's degrees and the possibility of a PhD for the health professions. This article is based on the presentation with the same title given at the VFWG symposium «Bachelor degree programs in Austria and Switzerland: models for the therapy and nursing professions in Germany?» on September 8, 2021.

<abstract><title style='display:none'>Abstract</title>Students can prepare themselves for the growing demands in the eHealth sector by using media-supported teaching settings during their training. Problem-based learning (PBL) is a learner-centered educational approach based on authentic problems. The 7 Jump Method is an established method for the implementation of PBL and for the theoretical treatment of problems in class. PBL is subject to the danger of „understeering the learning process” (Müller Werder, 2013). E-learning can make process control more eficient and structure it beter through role-specific templates. Using the example of a course of study in nursing at the Höhere Fachschule in Switzerland, the first possibilities for implementation in the health care professions are pointed out and critically discussed. The present case study was intended to answer this question: How can problem-based learning be realised in blended format?</abstract>

<abstract><title style='display:none'>Abstract</title>Blended learning is characterised as a combination of face-to-face teaching and e-learning in terms of knowledge transfer, students’ learning activities and reduced presence at the teaching facility. The present cohort study investigated long-term effects of blended learning regarding cognitive outcomes as well as self-indicated estimates of immediate learning effects on the affective domain in the inter-professional field of occupational medicine. Physiotherapy students (bachelor degree) at FH Campus Wien – University of Applied Sciences completed the course Occupational Medicine/Prevention either in a traditional teaching-learning setting entirely taught face-to-face (control-group, n=94), or with a blended learning model (intervention-group, n=93). Long-term effects (1.5 year follow-up) on the cognitive learning outcomes were assessed according to four levels of Bloom’s learning objectives. In addition, students estimated potential benefits resulting from blended learning based on four Krathwohl’s learning objectives for the affective domain by means of a six-option Likert scale (n=282). Concerning cognitive outcomes, significant results favouring both groups were found with effect sizes from small to medium. The traditional teaching-learning setting resulted in significantly better results in the upmost aspired learning objective (analysis) at the long-term (p&lt;0,01; r=-0,33). In contrast, the intervention group resulted in significantly better long-term results on learning objective levels 1 (knowledge) and 2 (understanding) (p=0,01; r=-0,20 and, p=0,02; r=-0,17, respectively). Hence, no general recommendation favouring either the classical setting or blending learning can be drawn regarding the cognitive domain. However, students’ self-indications on the affective domain give preference to blended learning, particularly if inter-professional teamwork is a course objective.</abstract>

People with good health literacy are likely to make better health decisions. A large proportion of the German population, not just vulnerable groups, has a problematic or insufficient health literacy.</sec><sec id="j_ijhp-2018-0007_s_006_w2aab3b7b6b1b6b1aab1c16b2Aa"><title style='display:none' id="d8179e222_w2aab3b7b6b1b6b1aab1c16b2aAa">Aims</title>The study describes the health literacy of students at a German health university. It investigates the influence of sociodemographic and course-related factors on health literacy. The results are compared with those of the general population from Germany.</sec><sec id="j_ijhp-2018-0007_s_007_w2aab3b7b6b1b6b1aab1c16b3Aa"><title style='display:none' id="d8179e230_w2aab3b7b6b1b6b1aab1c16b3aAa">Methodology</title>Study participants were recruited by email. 203 students took part in the online survey (response rate 20.2%). From the European Health Literacy Questionaire 16 (HLS-EU-Q16) 127 datasets of students were completely available and were analyzed in this study. In addition to health literacy, sociodemographic and course-related factors were ascertained.</sec><sec id="j_ijhp-2018-0007_s_008_w2aab3b7b6b1b6b1aab1c16b4Aa"><title style='display:none' id="d8179e238_w2aab3b7b6b1b6b1aab1c16b4aAa">Results</title>39 (30.7%) of the students have a sufficient or excellent health literacy. On average, health literacy is lower in the group of students of health-related courses (M=30.6) than in the normal German population (M=34.5). The levels are particularly low in the dimensions of <italic>appraising</italic> and <italic>applying</italic> of health information.</sec><sec id="j_ijhp-2018-0007_s_009_w2aab3b7b6b1b6b1aab1c16b5Aa"><title style='display:none' id="d8179e253_w2aab3b7b6b1b6b1aab1c16b5aAa">Conclusion</title>The results must be interpreted with care. They can be used as a base for long-term monitoring of students’ health literacy and provide starting points for health promotion within the academic setting. Students of health-related degree should be encouraged to reflect on their own and others health literacy, as this is important for their future work with patients or clients.</sec></abstract>

Barriers were described with fragmented hospital care structures – regarding sections and professional background of the staff – and lack of financial resources. Facilitators were named with acknowledging delirium prevention successes of known community leaders and building interest groups and networks. For the implementation of their delirium prevention program, hospitals used working groups and networks to benefit from outside perspectives on their implementation process.</sec><sec id="j_ijhp-2019-0005_s_012_w2aab3b7b4b1b6b1aab1c16b4Aa"><title style='display:none' id="d497900e34981_w2aab3b7b4b1b6b1aab1c16b4aAa">Conclusion</title>Although delirium prevention is associated with cost savings in hospital procedures, program leaders described a lack of financial resources to implement delirium prevention programs. To face the demographic shift in hospital care, it is vital to implement national health care funding for delirium prevention programs. Currently, hospital leaders described an undersupply of older patients with delirium in German and Austrian hospital care.</sec></abstract>

<sec><title style='display:none'>Purpose</title>
Telerehabilitation may stabilize the results of a previous phase 2 rehabilitation program through remote rehabilitation sessions. We evaluated a new telerehabilitation service (PV RehaTRAIN®) during its initial implementation, focusing on its usability both from the perspective of patients with musculoskeletal or oncological diseases and the interdisciplinary treatment team.
</sec>
<sec><title style='display:none'>Methods</title>
The evaluation followed a convergent mixed-methods design. After separate qualitative and quantitative analyses of the multi-perspective findings from interviews, focus groups and questionnaires, we interpreted the results collectively and equally.
</sec>
<sec><title style='display:none'>Results</title>
Overall, the results indicate high acceptance of and satisfaction with the new telerehabilitation service, especially from the patients’ perspective and regarding educational and individual counselling sessions. However, the treatment team identified a need for further didactic training to enable them to realize their full professional potential in a telerehabilitation setting.
</sec>
<sec><title style='display:none'>Conclusion</title>
The new telerehabilitation service PV RehaTRAIN® may bridge gaps in health care for patients who do not have access to conventional phase 3 rehabilitation infrastructure or prefer remote services that are readily integrated into their everyday lives. Members of the interdisciplinary treatment team offering telerehabilitation for the first time need adequate technical and especially setting-specific didactic training. Increased participation of treatment teams when refining telerehabilitation systems may minimize problems in early implementation phases and contribute to the quality of care.

<sec><title style='display:none'>Background</title>
Physical and social activity can influence positively the effects of ageing. This study examined differences in balance, physical activity and social integration between everyday active, sportive or dancing 60- to 80-year-old people in Lower Austria.
</sec>
<sec><title style='display:none'>Materials and methods</title>
We recruited 50 seniors with a mean age of 66.8 ± 4.2 years for this cross-sectional study. 13 people were active everyday, 21 were sportive on a weekly basis and 16 were “Seniorentanz” dancers. We blindly assessed balance (MiniBESTest), mobility (Timed Up and Go), and muscular endurance of knee extensors, hip abductors, and plantar flexors. Questionnaires identified physical activity (IPAQ-SF) and social integration (LSNS-6). The analysis of group differences was carried out descriptively and via ANOVA or the Kruskal-Wallis H test.
</sec>
<sec><title style='display:none'>Results</title>
People who were regularly active in senior dance showed 5.5 points significantly higher balance ability in the MiniBESTest than those who were otherwise sportive (<italic>p</italic> = .002), and 7.5 points significantly higher balance than people who were active in everyday life (<italic>p</italic> = .006). According to the IPAQ-SF, athletes were by 4515 MET-min/week significantly more physically active than people who are only active in everyday life (<italic>p</italic> = .003). Social integration or other parameters did not differ between groups.
</sec>
<sec><title style='display:none'>Conclusion</title>
The small sample, the heterogeneity of the participants and differences in the contextual conditions of the measurements limit the validity of the results of this study. The results of this Lower Austrian sample could indicate differences in balance and physical activity between everyday active, sportive or dancing ageing people.

<sec><title style='display:none'>Introduction</title>
Interprofessional education (IPE) has been increasingly emphasized as a potential factor in high-quality health care. Despite a rising trend in online IPE courses, less attention has been given to how interactional formats intersect with learner characteristics. This study was to examine the impact of the introductory IPE online course on student attitudes about IPE and identify students’ perceived value of specific instructional course components, such as Student–Student (SS) and Student–Content (SC) aspects, with respect to different academic levels and gender.
</sec>
<sec><title style='display:none'>Methods</title>
A mixed-methods design was used and involved quantitative data about the attitudes measured by the SPICE-R2 survey and qualitative open-ended questions about students’ opinions. Participants completed the pre- and post-survey, before and after completing an online course.
</sec>
<sec><title style='display:none'>Results</title>
2,373 students completed the online course and consented to have their responses in this analysis. The two-way ANOVA showed significant effects of academic levels on all three subdomains (Roles, Teamwork, and Outcomes; all p &lt; 0.001), highlighting varied gains across levels, and the qualitative data were confirmatory or confirmatory plus expansive. Students preferred SC more than SS interaction.
</sec>
<sec><title style='display:none'>Conclusion</title>
This online course was an effective learning activity for improving students’ attitudes toward IPE. Learning components focusing on real-life patient experience was the most valued and thus impactful course component. Mixed method findings highlighted important awareness of the impact of learner characteristics on the perceived value of course components. Tailoring IPE course content and delivery to meet diverse learners’ learning needs and expectations would be more impactful.

<sec><title style='display:none'>Hintergrund</title>
In der Forschung und Praxis zur Förderung von Gesundheitskompetenz stellen Menschen mit chronischer Erkrankung eine zentrale Gruppe dar. Sie sind mit komplexen Herausforderungen im Krankheitsverlauf konfrontiert und nutzen häufiger das Gesundheitssystem. Die Patient:innen sind dabei oft auf die Unterstützung der Gesundheitsprofessionen angewiesen. Die bevölkerungsweiten Studien aus Deutschland zeigen, dass die Beurteilung von Gesundheitsinformationen mehrheitlich am schwersten fällt. Als Voraussetzung zur Verbesserung von Kompetenzen in der Bevölkerung heben die Studien den Ausbau professioneller Gesundheitskompetenz, z. B. in der Pflege, hervor. Um eine niedrigschwellige und bedarfsgerechte Versorgung von Menschen mit chronischer Erkrankung zu erzielen, hat ein Projekt in Norddeutschland ein pflegegeleitetes Konzept entwickelt und angeboten.
</sec>
<sec><title style='display:none'>Methode</title>
Im Rahmen dieses Projektes wurde als Teil einer Mixed-Methods-Studie die selbsteingeschätzte Gesundheitskompetenz von chronisch erkrankten Patient:innen eines Stadtteil-Gesundheitszentrums mittels einer standardisierten quantitativen Befragung erhoben und analysiert.
</sec>
<sec><title style='display:none'>Ergebnisse</title>
Die Analyse zeigt, dass mehr als die Hälfte der Befragten, unabhängig vom Geschlecht und Alter, ihre Gesundheitskompetenz als unzureichend beurteilt und in jeder Ebene der Informationsanforderungen- und Bereiche, Schwierigkeiten angegeben wurden.

<sec><title style='display:none'>Fazit</title>
Es braucht die Einbeziehung von Betroffenen, um passgenaue Strategien zur Stärkung von Gesundheitskompetenz bei Menschen mit chronischer Erkrankung zu etablieren. Die Förderung professioneller und organisationaler Gesundheitskompetenz ist dafür maßgeblich.

Health literacy of patients with chronic diseases – quantitative results of a mixed methods study in primary healthcare / Gesundheitskompetenz von Menschen mit chronischer Erkrankung – quantitative Ergebnisse einer Mixed-Methods-Studie in der Primärversorgung

The complexity and diversity of healthcare conditions, as well as the financial and personnel challenges requires effective interdisciplinary collaboration (IDC) among various healthcare professionals (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="j_ijhp-2024-0001_ref_028">Robert-Bosch-Stiftung, 2011</xref>; <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="j_ijhp-2024-0001_ref_030">Robert Koch Institute, 2015</xref>). In contrast to the inpatient practice, IDC has not established yet in primary care settings. There is a lack of concrete solutions that illustrate how IDC can be implemented in outpatient practice (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="j_ijhp-2024-0001_ref_034">Schmitz, Atzeni &amp; Berchtold, 2020</xref>).
The study aims to present realization possibilities of the IDC among occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and physiotherapists based on case examples from outpatient neurorehabilitation practices. Necessary framework conditions and support factors should be identified from successful applications.
In an online focus group, five therapists from three outpatient therapy centers were interviewed about the interdisciplinary measures taking place at their workplace. The therapy centers implemented interdisciplinary team meetings, collaborative target setting and therapy planning as well as co-therapies in their everyday primary care practice. Digital communication channels and the use of digital practice software represent support measures that enable communication independent of location and time. Educational policy changes are needed to impart the corresponding attitudes, knowledge and skills to the healthcare professionals during the vocational training/study.
The results of the study show that IDC can be implemented in the outpatient setting under appropriate conditions. Legal requirements are needed to enable the application of interdisciplinary measures through adequate remuneration systems and available time slots. Further calls address content in vocational trainings/studies to provide a basis for readiness and competencies for IDC.

<sec><title style='display:none'>Background</title>
Stroke is a leading cause of impairment and death. Many survivors suffer from motor, sensory and speech impairments and require ongoing rehabilitation. Digital health interventions have the potential to overcome barriers such as distance between patient and therapist. However, there is a lack of clarity in terms and definitions used in research and practice. Therefore, the aim of this scoping review is to provide a comprehensive overview of the definitions and terms used in publications by healthcare professionals (occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy) related to digital stroke rehabilitation.
</sec>
<sec><title style='display:none'>Methods</title>
We did a scoping review of all publications related to stroke survivors who received synchronous technology-based distance therapeutic rehabilitation services in physical, occupational therapy, as well as speech and language therapy (PT, OT, SLT). Services were image-based, sensor-based, virtual environment and/or virtual reality-based, and publications were published worldwide in English, French or German between the year 2000 and December 2022, including elaboration of a concept map of the terms and definitions used.
</sec>
<sec><title style='display:none'>Results</title>
There is a lack of consistency in terminology and definitions in the field of digital stroke rehabilitation across different countries, languages and professional groups. A preference for the term ‘telerehabilitation’ could be found, as well as a definition.
</sec>
<sec><title style='display:none'>Discussion</title>
Although the WHO taxonomy aims to provide a ‚bridging language’ to ensure understanding between different actors, exchange and networking among the therapeutic professions would be necessary to reach a common term for ‚consultations between remote clients and healthcare providers’ in stroke rehabilitation.

The taxonomy of “digital health interventions” and their subgroups in the therapeutic rehabilitation of stroke patients – A scoping review / Die Taxonomie der “digitalen Gesundheitsinterventionen” und ihrer Untergruppen in der therapeutischen Schlaganfallrehabilitation – Ein Scoping Review

<abstract><title style='display:none'>Abstract</title> Interprofessional teamwork among healthcare professionals in healthcare organizations is a key factor for both their job satisfaction and patients’ effective and efficient treatment. One precondition for successful interprofessional teamwork is a shared mental model (a common cognitive frame of reference and knowledge) of working together as a team. However, there often exist subcultures, and each of these has its own mental model of teamwork. Hence, it can be assumed that different healthcare professional groups do not share the evaluation of their interprofessional teamwork and job satisfaction (Hypothesis 1). Additionally, based on the input-process-output model of team effectiveness, it can be expected that interprofessional teamwork determines job satisfaction (Hypothesis 2). These hypotheses were tested in a survey of 272 employees in 15 rehabilitation clinics in Germany. Results showed that healthcare professionals’ evaluation of their interprofessional teamwork (F(3, 203) = 9.118, p &lt; 0.001, η2 = 0.119) as well as their job satisfaction (F(3, 210) = 3.357, p = 0.02, η2 = 0.046) differed significantly. Physicians reported the highest level of interprofessional teamwork and job satisfaction compared with other groups. Perceptions of interprofessional teamwork explain approximately 20% of the variance in job satisfaction. Thus, both hypotheses were confirmed. Interprofessional interventions in education and practice are recommended to establish a shared mental model, which could improve teamwork and subsequently job satisfaction.</abstract>

Healthcare professionals’ evaluation of interprofessional teamwork and job satisfaction / Evaluation der Teamarbeit und der Arbeitszufriedenheit von Gesundheitsfachberufen

<abstract><title style='display:none'>Abstract</title>Cries of infants can be seen as an indicator for several developmental diseases. Different types of classification algorithms have been used in the past to classify infant cries of healthy infants and those with developmental diseases. To determine the ability of classification models to discriminate between healthy infant cries and various cries of infants suffering from several diseases, a literature search for infant cry classification models was performed; 9 classification models were identified that have been used for infant cry classification in the past. These classification models, as well as 3 new approaches were applied to a reference dataset containing cries of healthy infants and cries of infants suffering from laryngomalacia, cleft lip and palate, hearing impairment, asphyxia and brain damage. Classification models were evaluated according to a rating schema, considering the aspects accuracy, degree of overfitting and conformability. Results indicate that many models have issues with accuracy and conformability. However, some of the models, like C5.0 decision trees and J48 classification trees provide promising results in infant cry classification for diagnostic purpose.</abstract>

These include for example the setup of scientific disciplines as well as the development of higher education concepts. Meanwhile, entering interprofessional teaching and work processes is demanded. This requirement is a chance and often a concern of specialist development. In this article, interprofessionalism is defined as a social construct and distinct object of research that is a crucial requirement for the academisation of health professions. The engagement with other professions and disciplines as outlined with exemplary processes is relevant for the development of specialist profiles and should be supported.</abstract>

The meaning of interprofessional education and collaborative practice for the academisation of health professions / Die Relevanz Interprofessioneller Lern- und Arbeitsprozesse im Kontext der Akademisierung der Gesundheitsberufe

<abstract><title style='display:none'>Abstract</title>Contemporary conditions require health professionals both to employ published evidence in their individual practices and as a profession to produce valid evidence of their outcome effectiveness. Heretofore, these two processes of evidence-based practice have often been confounded as one. This theoretical paper separates the two processes into «Evidence-Supported Practice» and «Evidence-Informed Practice.» Each requires a different approach to evidence accumulation and use. Nonetheless, the two processes can and should be interlinked. For external (research) evidence, the research pyramid model values equally the internal and external validity of studies, as both are important for the implementation of external evidence. Furthermore, external evidence must be combined with internal evidence (data generated in the course of interaction with a client) in the decision-making of practitioners. Examples from recent research on occupational therapy practice and literature from several other health professions are cited for illustration. This paper formulates a more comprehensive model for evidence-based practice. From this model follow specific recommendations for practitioners, researchers, and educators in the health professions. </abstract>
