<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">The aim of our study is to compare Visegrad countries and the other EU member states regarding sustainable development, based on the system of Sustainable Development Indicators of the European Union. We provide a brief overview of almost two decades of elaborating the Sustainable Development Strategy of the Community, review the structure and the main elements of the strategic document, and – using the method of cluster analyses – we group the member states comparing them on the basis of specific headline indicators. Our goal was not a deep investigation, but a compact, thought-provoking analysis; this is the reason why we concentrated on the main indicators. As a result of the analysis, our hypothesis seems to be confirmed: the EU-15 countries and the rest of the member states belong to different clusters, which means that there are significant inequalities, especially from the economic and social aspects of sustainability.</abstract>

Performance Of The Visegrad Countries Compared To The EU-27 Countries, Based On The Sustainable Development Indicators Of The European Union

<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">The goal of this paper is to analyze the dynamics of cooperation of Ukraine with the Visegrad countries with the aim to integrate into the political, economic, legal and humanitarian space in Europe and build the benchmark for system reforms to modernize Ukraine. Therefore, the study of problems of Euroregional cooperation is essential, given the complex circumstances surrounding the modern integration processes. The need to take into account the experience of regional policy of the Visegrad countries in the context of globalization and expansion of the EU influence is undeniable. Multilateral cooperation of Ukraine with the countries of Visegrad during the last decade is characterized by significant achievements. The close historical ties and common foreign policy goals of modern Ukraine and Visegrad laid the foundation for effective development of good neighbourly relations at the present stage and created opportunities for further large-scale cooperation in the future. It is safe to say that Visegrad-Ukrainian relations are rather balanced, thanks to the successful implementation of bilateral and multilateral agreements achieved after the regular meetings at all levels. All this creates a solid foundation for further expansion of this cooperation on the basis of the joint account of the interests of the parties.</abstract>

Development Of Euro-Regional Cooperation Of Ukraine In The Context Of The Visegrad Experience

<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">Wider use of alternative energy sources is a real requirement of sustainable economy – not only from the point of view of limited natural resources –, and there is a question what is the knowledge, the attitude of young generation. As there is a strong connection between the use of renewable energy and sustainability, the issues must be examined together. On the other hand it can be observed that there is a tendency that people are becoming more open and inquiring towards renewable energy sources, and environment protection is considered as a very important task. The main goals of the research were to examine the knowledge of the young generation taking part in higher education on sustainability and alternative energy, and to find out their attitudes to the use of different alternative energy sources. Also, our hypotheses said that the level of knowledge of sustainability and their attitudes to the environment issues are connected. We compared the results of two surveys carried out in 2014 among the students of a Hungarian and a Slovak higher educational institute. According to the primary results it can be stated that the increasing environmental awareness of young generation is visible, although as for the concepts of sustainability and their knowledge on alternative energy sources, as well as their expectations for the future, there was no significant correlation between their opinions in the Hungarian sample. It was proved that they have open minds towards environmental consciousness, and follow the renewable energy sources with attention. A bit more than a half of the sample has real knowledge on sustainability – we mean the three-pillars model here –, more the mail interview has higher knowledge and for the future they thought the question as a very important one. Considerable majority of the respondents, compared to their capabilities, try to live environmentally-sound life, will do more than one thing to save their environment, although also some negative responses slightly appeared in the received results. Primary results of the Slovak sample are similar; respondents do similar measures for environment at their households as their Hungarian colleagues, but with different priority. Concerning the knowledge of concept of “green economy”, “blue economy” and the “non-growth”, it can be summarized that the awareness is evident but in many cases, there is just few information and weak knowledge connected with the terminology and practical consequences. We think it is an important task of education to increase the awareness of young people on sustainable energy use and to let them accustomed to the thought of green economy and non-growth theories, since the expansion of knowledge may help in the development of a more positive attitude, which will then, hopefully, encourage their actions in the future.</abstract>

<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">This article analyses past and current state of plastic bags usage and reviews the major challenges in addressing the issue of its reduction with emphasis on failure and success of the chosen policy. Given the heterogeneous impacts of government policies, it is important to understand the consumer behaviour and motivation for purchasing plastic bags. This can help to make a fundamental shift in reduction of plastic bags usage by the demand side, which supplement government’s efforts to address the issue from the supply side.</abstract>

Consumption Towards Environmentally Friendly Consumer Behaviour: The Case Of Plastic Bags

<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">The paper investigates the relationship between farm size and productivity on chosen sample of companies in Slovakia. The impact of farm size in hectares and credits per hectare in euro on the production per hectare are analysed. The ordinary least square (OLS) and fixed effect model (FEM) regression framework confirms the inverse relationship between farm size and productivity. Credits per hectare have positive impact on productivity of farms. The results of the models show increasing returns to scale in Slovak farms.</abstract>

<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">It has long been the subject of empirical researches to examine the technical efficiency on farm (micro) level. Two main methods are most often used in the empirical literature: the non-parametric Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) based on linear programming, and the Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) introduced by Aigner, Lovell and Schmidt (1977). The present study aimed to investigate the technical efficiency of farms involved in agricultural activities in Hungary using the DEA-method and the data from the Hungarian FADN database. The technical efficiency was examined based on legal forms, farm size categories and the type of farming between 2001 and 2013.</abstract>

<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">The importance of innovative technologies in bringing about sustainable development in agriculture cannot be overemphasized in today’s world. Concerted efforts have been made by international organizations, ministries of agriculture and extension agents to ensure that farmers have access to these new technologies. Therefore, this study examined the role of technology as a guarantee of sustainable agricultural development in Armenia. The aim of this paper is to find out in what ways this specific technological program in Armenia could contribute to the sustainable development of agriculture and how the innovations applied in agriculture could improve the quality of products and improve the efficiency of production. Various technology programmes from 2001–2013 were critically examined using narratives based on the data obtained from the Agricultural Support Republican Centre. It has been found out that majority of farmers that participated in the Technology Evaluation Programme had increased productivity, had less post-harvest loss, produced high quality and safe output, and increased income accompanied by better welfare. However, new laws and regulations for shared roles and responsibilities of involved institutions are recommended. Farmers from isolated areas should also be engaged within the scope of the project, and promotion of nationwide awareness of the program should also be carried out to the end users.</abstract>
