Economic complexity indicators attempt to map latent factors for long-term growth. In this analysis, we shed light on Austria as a business location using multidimensional complexity indicators that allow statements to be made about regional specialization, key technologies for the green transition and individual sectors such as the semiconductor industry. Austria usually occupies top international positions or is at least among the leaders, and this has remained stable over the last 20 years. This implies extensive opportunities for diversification into promising technologies. For individual brown industries, however, there is a risk of getting locked into products whose demand will decline in the course of the green transition.
