<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

<p>The authors describe five new species of <italic>Pristionchus</italic> from Japan and Hongkong. Scarab beetle samplings in Hongkong identified <italic>P. hongkongensis</italic> sp. n. and <italic>P. neolucani</italic> sp. n., representing the first beetle-associated <italic>Pristionchus</italic> species from China. Surprisingly, samplings of millipedes in Japan revealed a previously unknown association of <italic>Pristionchus</italic> nematodes with these arthropods. Specifically, the authors found three previously known <italic>Pristionchus</italic> species, <italic>P. arcanus</italic>, <italic>P. entomophagus</italic>, and <italic>P. fukushimae</italic> on Japanese millipedes. In addition, the authors found three new <italic>Pristionchus</italic> species on millipedes, which are described as <italic>P. riukiariae</italic> sp. n., <italic>P. degawai</italic> sp. n., and <italic>P. laevicollis</italic>, sp. n., the latter of which was also found on stag beetles. These species are most closely related to <italic>P. maxplancki</italic>, <italic>P. japonicus</italic>, and <italic>P. quartusdecimus</italic> and belong to the <italic>pacificus</italic> species-complex. The authors describe all species based on morphology, morphometrics, and genome-wide sequence analysis. Mating experiments indicated that all species are reproductively isolated from each other and in contrast to the species of the “<italic>pacificus</italic> species-complex <italic>sensu stricto</italic>” they do not form F1 hybrids.</p>
