Digitalisation, decarbonisation and demographic change are placing high demands on Germany’s labour markets, although these differ from region to region. Intelligent adaptation measures are needed on both the supply and the demand side. This Zeitgespräch discusses how more flexible working time models can help to further increase the participation rates of older people, women and migrants. How education policy, understood as labour market policy, can provide good starting opportunities to adapt more flexibly to future changes in the world of work. How regionally differing demands on the labour markets can be met. How immigration geared towards the needs of the labour market can help to cushion the challenges of demographic change.
