Artificial Intelligence – Evolution, Challenge or Threat

The aim of this article is to stimulate interest among military specialists and beyond in a field that has explosively developed in recent years. It offers an overview of the benefits, risks, and potential threats of artificial intelligence (AI), currently in the focus of politicians, experts, and tech companies worldwide. Without claiming to provide answers or solutions to questions about AI's future evolution, we present a selection of information on this process and highlight some conclusions we find relevant and realistic for the field's future development. Our approach also serves as an alarm bell for the responsible and controlled management of AI's evolution to prevent uncontrollable consequences for society. Lastly, we see the introduction of comprehensive AI training programs in education and development for experts in all fields as a crucial and necessary solution to guide this process in the anticipated direction.
