Particularities of the Management of the Pediatric Department of the Emergency Clinical County Hospital of Constanta (SCJUCT) in the Context of the Covid-19 Pandemic

Cite

The study aimed to analyse the management of the Pediatric Department of the Emergency Clinical County Hospital “St. Apostol Andrei” in Constanța before and after the COVID-19 pandemic, using 4-year strategic indicators (2018-2021), in order to improve its quality and performance, even during the global health crisis. By comparing and standardizing indicators, we obtained information on how the COVID-19 infection influenced the work of the ward and how it adapted to the new unforeseen situation. In terms of service consumption, during the pandemic the number of cases and bed utilisation rate decreased, but the case complexity index and thus the average length of hospitalisation increased. As the number of day hospitalisations increases at the expense of continuous admissions, medical activity becomes more efficient and the quality of care increases, satisfying patients. The lower percentage of transferred patients also means higher revenue for the department. We have identified the most important problem as the lack of a Pediatric Hospital in the city of Constanta, but there is an increased interest in the performance of the Pediatric Department of SCJUCT.
