Tunnelled catheters have become established as a common vascular access in the last few decades. Besides the convenience associated with their use, we also reap the bitter fruits of their complications. Catheter-associated infections are part of daily life in dialysis units and we must know them well – early diagnosis, adequate behaviour and prevention. The aim of this short review is to highlight some modern aspects of diagnosis and treatment of catheter-associated infections, while also sharing our modest experience.
