The roots of the Technical University of Civil Engineering of Bucharest (UTCB) go back in 1818 in the school of engineering concerning surveying and geodesy. In 1864 it became the "School of Bridges and Roads, Mines and Architecture", and from 1867 the "School of Bridges, Roads and Mines" and "the National School for Bridges and Roads" in 1888. In 1921, the "National School of Bridges and Roads" became the "Polytechnic School of Bucharest", where the civil engineers' training was carried out in the Civil Engineering Department which, in 1938, came to be known as the Faculty of Civil Engineering.

In 1948, due to the large development of the construction sector in Romania, an important part of the Polytechnic School was separated as the Civil Engineering Institute, including not only the Faculty of Civil Engineering, but also parts of other specializations related to constructions, as building services engineering, mechanical engineering for constructions, hydrotechnical engineering, roads, bridges, and railways construction or geodesy.

Starting from 1994, the Civil Engineering Institute became the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest (UTCB).

The scientific results were published internally in the university scientific bulletin. Since 2005, the scientific bulletin of UTCB became the Mathematical Modelling in Civil Engineering journal.

The journal serves the Civil and Environmental Engineering community and our societies, aiming to effectively contribute to the development, innovation and progress in the field. Our journal publishes papers that present the state-of the-art results from research and practice.

Starting with 2021, the journal Mathematical Modelling in Civil Engineering expands its research fields and thus becomes: Modelling in Civil and Environmental Engineering, with a new ISSN: 2784-1391.

The journal Modelling in Civil and Environmental Engineering covers a wide range of topics from Civil and Environmental Engineering field and is ready to publish high quality standards, state-of the-art, peer-reviewed papers, coming from the academic and research community, and industry as well. MCEE addresses both theoretical developments and practical applications related to Civil and Structural Engineering, Geotechnics and Environmental Science (Soil, Water and Air Pollution, Wastewater Treatment Engineering), Thermal Sciences and Engineering (Thermodynamics, Transport Phenomena, Building Heat & Mass Transfer, HVAC & R), Hydraulic and Wind Engineering, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in the Built Environment, Automation in Constructions, Roads, Bridges and Railways Constructions, Surveying and Geodesy and any other topics related to constructions and the built environment.

To be acceptable for publication in the MCEE journal, a manuscript must address valuable and of significant interest scientific issues for the Civil Engineering community, free of evident commercial or private interest.

The authors are requested to make sure that appropriate research ethical standards are strictly followed in their work, when submitted to MCEE.

The MCEE staff fully supports the authors during the entire evaluation process and is committed to ensure that the ethical standards, related to submittal, review, and publication of manuscripts, will be strictly followed.

For the MCEE journal, all the editorial work is voluntary. Therefore, there are no APCs (Article Processing Charges) required to the authors.

Instructions for authors regarding paper submission

Introduction

The entire submission and review process for MMCE is handled electronically. All papers should be therefore submitted electronically. Please note that you must have a valid e-mail address (avoid too personal-type address, e.g. nicknames) to use the online submission system. Authors submit their article by e-mail, simply by completing the submission form. Editors will then invite potential reviewers to evaluate the manuscript.

Types of paper

Original research papers (preferably no more than 20 double line spaced manuscript pages including tables and illustrations), reviews, short communications.
Any comment on or discussion of a published paper should be emailed directly to the Editor. It must be received by the Editor within three months of the online publication of the paper under discussion.

After acceptance

Corresponding authors will receive an e-mail from the Editor. MMCE staff will do everything possible to get your article published quickly and accurately.

When a manuscript is returned for revision prior to final acceptance, the revised version must be submitted as soon as possible after the author's receipt of the reviewers reports. Revised manuscripts returned after four months will be considered as new submissions subject to full re-review.

Manuscript editing

Use of word processing software
The manuscript file shall be saved in the native format of the word processor used. Keep the MMCE paper format (see Submission section).
To avoid unnecessary errors you are strongly advised to use the 'spell-check' and 'grammar-check' functions of your word processor.

Article structure:

Introduction

State the objectives of the work and provide an adequate background, a literature survey and a summary of the results.

Material and methods

Provide sufficient detail to allow the work to be reproduced. Methods already published should be indicated by a reference: only relevant modifications should be described.

Theory/calculation

A Theory section should extend, not repeat, the background to the article already dealt with in the Introduction and lay the foundation for further work. In contrast, a Calculation section represents a practical development from a theoretical basis.

Results

Results should be clear and concise.

Discussion

This should explore the significance of the results of the work, not repeat them. A combined Results and Discussion section is often appropriate. Avoid extensive citations and discussion of published literature.

Conclusions

The main conclusions of the study may be presented in a short Conclusions section, which may stand alone or form a subsection of a Discussion or Results and Discussion section.

Acknowledgements

Collate acknowledgements in a separate section at the end of the article before the references. Do not include them on the title page, as a footnote to the title or otherwise. List here those individuals who provided help during the research.

Units

Follow internationally accepted rules and conventions: use the international system of units (SI). If other units are mentioned, please give their equivalent in SI.

Appendices

If there is more than one appendix, they should be identified. Figures shall be saved in the manuscript in an image format (at least 300dpi).

Language (usage and editing services)

Please write your text in good English (American or British usage is accepted, but not a mixture of these).

Peer review policy

The process of reviewing articles for publication in MMCE journal is done by appointed reviewers upon their active involvement in the research field. They use their own valuable expertise and spend countless hours of their time to ensure that submitted articles are timely and worthy of inclusion in the journal.
Reviewers are anonymous to authors and vice-versa; it is therefore best, whenever possible, to avoid handwritten reviews. Although the reviewers are anonymous, the authors can indicate a rejection preference for a potential reviewer, from the beginning of evaluation process (see the Submission form). The official language of MMCE is English. It is the autor's entire responsability to make sure that a submitted paper fulfills English grammar and syntax standards.
To be definitely accepted or rejected for publication, a paper must receive two positive or two negative reviews. If one positive and one negative review are received, a third clarifying, tie-breaking review must be performed.
In the case of a tentatively accepted paper, some minor revisions must be made by authors, as requested by the reviewers. Revised manuscript must return to the editor for final review, in a reasonable period of time, before receiving publishing acceptance. A manuscript under re-review may be rejected if (i) the author did not revised accordingly the article as requested by reviewers, (ii) new material was introduced that is considered to be of unacceptable quality or out of initial topics, or (iii) additional errors are found.

Ethical standards

MMCE serves the Civil Engineering community and society by promoting the results of current engineering, scientific research and practice. The responsibility of editors, authors, and reviewers to maintain high ethical standards relating to the submittal, review, and publication of manuscripts, is therefore fundamental. The ethical standards derive from the definition of the scope of MMCE’s journal and UTCB regulations. A summary of those standards should be brought to the attention of all concerned.
