AUTHOR GUIDELINES

Manuscript Style

Manuscripts should be single-spaced, 12-point font and be presented in the following sections; (a) title page, (b) abstract and key words, (c) introduction, (d) method, (e) results, (f) discussion, (g) acknowledgments, (h) references. Figures and tables should appear in the manuscript close to where they are referenced in the text. If this becomes problematic, figures can also be submitted as a "supplementary file" in the submission system.

Presentation style should follow American Psychological Association (6th edition) guidelines. However, the journal uses Australian spelling.

Title page - Please indicate the type of submission at the top of the title page (i.e. journal article, short report, review article, case study, letter to the editor). The title page should also contain the title of the paper, the full names of the authors and the addresses of the institutions at which the work was carried out. The corresponding author must be indicated and full postal and email address, plus facsimile and telephone numbers, must be provided. The title should include the major key words, without being too long. A short running title (less than 40 characters) should be provided.

Abstract and key words - All articles must have a brief abstract (maximum 250 words). Five key words (for the purposes of indexing) should be provided following the abstract.

Acknowledgements - Funding sources and contributions of colleagues who are not named authors should be included.

References - Referencing, tables and figures must be according to the Vancouver Style.

Tables – Tables should not duplicate information provided in the text. All tables should have a legend which explains all aspects of the table to the reader. Tables should be consecutively numbered using Arabic numerals and referred to in the text, e.g. (Table 1).

Figures – Figures should be in black and white or grayscale. Colour figures will be accepted, but keep in mind that readers are likely to print your article in black and white. All figures should have a legend which explains all aspects of the figure to the reader. Figures should be consecutively numbered using Arabic numerals and referred to in the text, e.g. (Figure 1). It is preferable for figures to be inserted in the main submission file at the point they are described. However, figures can also be submitted as a "supplementary file." In this case, they can be word, powerpoint, pdf, jpg, png or giff files.

Manuscript Type

Journal Articles should present original research and should be no longer than 6,000 words.
Review Articles should be no longer than 6,000 words. We are happy to consider narrative and systematic reviews.
Short Reports should be no longer than 1,500 words with a maximum of two tables and two figures.
Case Studies should be between 750 and 1500 words with a maximum of two tables and two figures.
Letters to the Editor should be brief and concise, with a maximum of one figure and five references.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
The submission file is in Microsoft Word or RTF file format.
Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses).
The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
