Editorial Policy

The editorial policies of Treatises and Documents, Journal of Ethnic Studies follow the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing (joint statement by COPE, DOAJ, WAME, and OASPA).

Treatises and Documents, Journal of Ethnic Studies (TD) is a double-blind peer reviewed international journal committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics, stated as follows in our Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement. All articles that are not in accordance with these standards will not be published or will be subsequently removed from the publication if malpractice is discovered at any time.

The Editor-in-Chief must ensure a fair double-blind peer-review of the submitted articles for publication. All the editors will strive to prevent any potential conflict of interests between the author and editorial and review personnel. Editors will also ensure that all the information related to submitted manuscripts is kept as confidential before publishing. Editors also check for and manipulation of existing research data. The editors will report any cases of suspected plagiarism or duplicate publishing.

Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on content without regard to ethnic or racial origin, residence, gender, sexual orientation, citizenship, religious belief, political affiliation or other personal characteristics of the authors. They must ensure that all the information related to submitted manuscripts is kept as confidential and must report to the Editor-in-Chief if they suspect copyright infringement and plagiarism. They must evaluate the submitted works objectively as well as present clearly their opinions on the works in the review form.

Authors must ensure that they have written original, unpublished works. Any work or words of other authors, contributors, or sources should be appropriately credited, referenced and cited. Authors submitting their works to the journal for publication as original articles confirm that the submitted works represent their authors’ contributions and have not been copied or plagiarized in whole or in part from other works without clearly citing. All articles submitted undergo language editing before publication. All authors should disclose financial or other conflict of interest that might influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript (financial support of research projects should be disclosed, usually within the article itself). An author agrees to the license agreement before submitting the article. Submitting a paper simultaneously to more than one publication at a time is considered a breach of publications ethics.

Article Processing Charge (APC)

The journal does not have article processing charges (APCs) nor article submission charges.

Instructions for Authors

GENERAL

Articles that are submitted must be original, unpublished material and should not be simultaneously under consideration – either in whole or in part – for publication elsewhere.

The journal encourages the submission of articles in English, since this enables authors to present their ideas and work to a broader public. However, articles in other languages – with a special emphasis on the Slovenian language – are also welcome. The abstracts of the articles are always published in the language of the article and in English.

Authors who do not have native or equivalent proficiency in English must have the article read by someone with this proficiency prior to submission. This step ensures that the academic content of your paper is fully understood by journal editors and reviewers. Articles that do not meet these requirements will most likely not be considered for publication.

Manuscripts should be submitted in electronic form and must include two Word documents:

1. Cover page:

A) the title of the article (should not exceed 130 characters (including spaces));

B) contact information: author(s)’ name(s) and full contact information (institution, authors’ email etc.), for publication in the journal;

C) bibliography: a brief biographical note (a paragraph of 5-10 lines of text) on each author, to be published in the journal.

D) abstract: an abstract of the article in the language of the article and in English; this should include a brief presentation of the issues discussed, the methodology used, the main findings and the conclusions. Also include 3 – 7 keywords and the title of the paper in the language of the article and in English. The length of the title, the abstract and the key words in one language should not exceed 1,100 characters (including spaces).

2. Article (without the author(s)’ name):

A) the submitted article, with the title in the language of the article and in English;

B) an abstract of the article in the language of the article and in English;

C) 3 – 7 keywords in the language of the article and in English.

Tables, maps, graphs and pictures used in the article are submitted as separate files (4th step of on-line submission). They should be in black and white, according to standard modes of computer design.

The Word file should be equivalent to the first page of the Template for manuscript.

FORMAT AND STYLE

The preferred length for articles is between 30,000 and 45,000 characters, including spaces (between approx. 4,500 and 6,500 words). Longer articles may be accepted at the discretion of the editorial board. A limited number of endnotes are permitted, if they are used for explanatory purposes only. They should be indicated serially within the article.

Authors should take into careful consideration also the style and format requirements of the journal, which are presented in the template in more detail. Particular attention should be paid to the formatting of references, single spacing throughout and the inclusion of keywords and abstracts. Articles that do not meet these requirements will be returned for modification before being read and reviewed.

REFERENCING STYLE

The Harvard author-date system of referencing must be used for bibliographical references in the text and in the alphabetical list of references at the end of the article. Authors should ensure that all and only those references cited in the text appear in the list of references. General bibliographies should not be provided. Authors must also follow the requirements regarding referencing style and format as presented in the attached table.

Peer Review Process

At Treatises and Documents, we follow the double-blind peer review process. Prior to acceptance, all manuscripts will undergo initial screening by the journal’s editors to check for compliance with formal requirements and suitability. Submissions may be rejected or returned to authors for corrections already at this stage.

The articles accepted by the editors are subjected to the peer-review procedure by at least two (if necessary three) reviewers. Depending on the reviews, the manuscript may be accepted, declined, or the authors may be asked to revise their articles bearing in mind suggestions made by the editors or reviewers.

If/when the article meets the reviewer’s recommendations, it is finally accepted for publication. The final decision on publication rests with the editorial board.
