<abstract><title style='display:none'>Abstract</title>Classical analysis methods are applied to show how flexural deflections due to shear strain in the flange pack produce bending moments and tensile loads on bolts within preloaded bolted joints. It was found that in joints made with long bolts these loads can be significant. The loads can cause yielding of the bolt, reducing bolt preload. The methods presented are adequate to demonstrate the structural integrity of joints made with long bolts or with a small footprint.</abstract>

One consisted of two horizontally adjacent reverberation rooms and a special source of high frequency sounds and ultrasounds. The paper presents results of the preliminary measurements of sound insulation properties of different barriers in the frequency range above 5 kHz.</abstract>

In order to obtain a radial displacement of the shaft at a location under a two-language seal, dynamic bearing simulation was performed using the MSC Adams program. The largest radial deviation of the shaft was applied in final seal analysis where the contact pressure changes on the individual tongues of the seal were recorded.</abstract>

The climate change is expected to present a number of challenges for the built environment and an evaporative cooling system is one of the simplest and environmentally friendly cooling system. The evaporative cooling system is most widely used in summer and in rural and urban areas of India for human comfort. In evaporative cooling system, the addition of water into air reduces the temperature of the air as the energy needed to evaporate the water is taken from the air. Computational fluid dynamics is a numerical analysis and was used to analyse the evaporative cooling system. The CFD results are matches with the experimental results.</abstract>

Computational Fluid Dynamics Analysis of an Evaporative Cooling System

<title style='display:none'>Abstract</title>
The ranking results of the alternatives are heavily influenced by the decision making method, data normalization method, and calculation method for criterion weights. In this study, five multi-criteria decision-making methods were compared: <italic>MABA</italic>C, <italic>COCOS</italic>O, <italic>MAIRCA</italic>, <italic>VIKOR</italic>, and <italic>ROV</italic>. All of these methods use the same data normarmalization method. The weights for the criteria were determined using four methods: Equal, ROC, RS, and Entropy. In two different examples, the combination of multi-criteria decision-making methods with weighting methods for ranking alternatives is demonstrated. In each example, the number of options and the number of criteria are also different. The results in both examples show that regardless of the weighting method, multi-criteria decision-making methods always determine the same best solution. Furthermore, the direction of future research has been mentioned in the final section of this paper.

During operation tanks can be subjected to different types of loading. Therefore, maximum attention must be paid to the tank design to capture all possible causes and forms of failures. The article deals with the procedure for seismic resistance of liquid storage tanks which are in accordance with the principles of Eurocode 8 standard. The seismic analysis is performed on flexible (steel) circular vertical ground-supported model of tank containing liquid (water). The main aim is to determine basic seismic characteristics, distributions of hydrodynamic pressure, dynamic properties and response of investigated tank-liquid system subjected to earthquake excitation (El Centro). Seismic analysis and results comparison are carried out on mechanical spring-mass model (Eurocode 8) and finite element model (ANSYS).</abstract>

In order to investigate the effect of the surrounding elastic medium on the dynamic stability of the pipe the Pasternak elastic medium is introduced. The critical velocity is calculated for different stiffness of the elastic medium and different density of the conveyed fluid.

The paper considers scientific principles of technological procedure development for the selection and assignment of parameters of velocity machining by blade tool at gear milling with due regard to the required parameters of the gear surface layer. Optimum micro-cutting conditions are determined when full participation in stock removal of all mill teeth is provided. Technological regulation of selection and setting of machining parameters is spread for gear hobbing of the spur gear wheels with fine-modular and coarse-modular hardness (220...320 HV) and after heat treatment (HRC46...63). Correlation with essential parameters of the surface layer, cutting depth, feed, speed and radius of rounding of the cutting edge of milling cutters’ teeth is established. It is scientifically grounded, tested, and proved at what modes of cutting, the radius of rounding of cutting edge of the cutting tool is made metal removal at oncoming and passing high-speed micro milling. The process of determining of minimal sliding angle, or maximum value (without the use of coolant and with coolant), in which there is no micro-cutting process taking into account variation of variable parameters of cutting conditions and geometrical parameters of hobbing cutters is modelled. For the first time, we ascertained the relation between the sliding angle and the maximum contact angle of the mill tooth with the work surface, which allowed determine the efficiency of the shaping process through coefficient (without coolant and with coolant).

Cytoskeletal mechanics is a field that heavily relies on mathematical models to interpret experimental data related to forces and deformations. In this paper, we present a novel mathematical model designed specifically for analysing the mechanical properties of liposomes, which serve as model systems for studying biological membranes. Our model takes into account various factors such as stretching, bending, and contact adhesion during atomic force microscopy (AFM) indentation using a spherical tip. By applying our model to liposomes, we demonstrate that these structures exhibit nonlinear behaviour characterized by low stiffness at small deformations. Furthermore, we find that the mechanical response of liposomes is influenced by their size. Additionally, we observe that the presence of adhesion energy contributes to the generation of negative tip forces upon initial contact.

Experimental flutter testing of high-aspect ratio rotor blades is a mainstay of turbomachinery research. However, rotor blades are never identical, and geometrical errors between actual and nominal geometries exist due to limited machining precision or assembly imperfection. The paper presents the initial phase of the controlled flutter research of a linear turbine blade cascade with a geometric deviation in one blade position. A subsonic wind tunnel with four flexibly mounted blades in an otherwise rigid blade cascade is employed at one angle of incidence and three low reduced frequencies. Measurements are performed with an angular position deviation (±1.5°) of one blade in pure bending and torsion modes. A tangible effect of one blade’s slight incidence angle offset on the vibrating blade cascade aerodynamic stability is demonstrated, and this research effort opens the door to a more extensive testing campaign.

Low surface roughness and high Material Removal Rate (<italic>MRR)</italic> are expected in most machining methods in general and milling method in particular. However, they sometimes do not occur, for example, the <italic>MRR</italic> is often small as the surface roughness is low. In this case, the decisions made should ensure that desires are simultaneously satisfied. This situation leads to a problem known as multi-criteria decision making (<italic>MCDM</italic>). In this study, five methods including <italic>EDAS</italic>, <italic>MARCOS</italic>, <italic>PIV</italic>, <italic>MOORA</italic> and <italic>TOPSIS</italic> are used together for the decision-making in the milling process. The purpose of the research is to determine the value of cutting parameters for both the low surface roughness and large <italic>MRR</italic>. The comparison of these methods for finding the best is carefully discussed as well.

So, it’s a mill race, flume or a penstock, channelling water towards a water mill, traditionally a wood or metal barrier sliding in grooves that are set in the sides of the waterway. They are used in wastewater treatment of plants, and control water level and flow in watermills. However, Sluices are subjected to temperature, environment that supports corrosion, impact loading and so on. Many of those equipments operate during long time in industries and reliability is one of the most important aspects of work, there arose questions of reliability on those structural elements, because the people working nearby will be in danger due to involvement of heavy loaded parts during various possible working states. Considering these factors the gates used in industries are subjected for “Fatigue Analysis”, but the normal V-channel gates which undergo corrosion, wear and continuous stress due to water flow which leads to fatigue failure, loss of material and wastage of water are still in need of this analysis. Hence there is need of an analysis to optimize the gate in terms of material, shape, and size. This paper helps to determine the fatigue strength, wear life of Sluice gate in “V-Channels”. So, by using the ANSYS Workbench software, sluice gate is analysed for fatigue life under fluid flow.</abstract>

The numerical modelling requires the modelling of a complex interaction between thermal, metallurgical and mechanical phenomena. The aim of this paper is to describe the thermal-fluid simulation of FSW using the finite element method. In the theoretical part of the paper heating is provided by the material flow and contact condition between the tool and the welded material. The thermal-fluid results from the numerical simulation for aluminium alloy using SYSWELD are also presented in this paper.</abstract>

FSW Numerical Simulation of Aluminium Plates by Sysweld - Part I

<abstract><title style='display:none'>Abstract</title> Friction stir processing (FSP) is solid state novel technique developed to refine microstructure and to improve the mechanical properties and be used to fabricate the aluminium alloy matrix composites. An attempt is made to fabricate AA6061/TiB2 aluminium alloy composite (AMCs) and the influence of process parameters like rotational speed, transverse feed, axial load and percentage reinforcement on microstructure and mechanical properties were studied. The microstructural observations are carried out and revealed that the reinforcement particles (TiB2) were uniformly dispersed in the nugget zone. The Tensile strength and Hardness of composites were evaluated. It was observed that tensile strength, and hardness were increased with increased the rotational speed and percentage reinforcement of particles. The process parameters were optimized using Taguchi analysis (Single Variable) and Grey analysis (Multi Variable). The most influential parameter was rotational speed in single variable method and multi variable optimization method. The ANOVA also done to know the percentage contribution of each parameter.</abstract>
