Englishes in Practice (Online ISSN: 2049-7156)

Having been initiated by the University of Southampton’s Centre for Global Englishes in 2014, Englishes in Practice is currently the title of the working papers of the Center for English as a Lingua Franca (CELF), Tamagawa University. It provides a forum for both members of CELF and other scholars to present research and explore matters related to global communication, including English as a lingua franca (ELF). The journal welcomes submissions which report empirical findings or which discuss theoretical, conceptual, or methodological aspects of relevance to the field.

Personal data with the name, title, affiliation, email and postal address, and a short bio (50-70 words) should be submitted with the paper in a separate file.

The journal operates a blind peer review that takes approximately 3-4 months. Editorial feedback and reviewers' comments will be made available to the authors via the editors. Every effort is made to respond to the authors in a timely manner.

Manuscripts. The preferred length of scholarly articles published in Englishes in Practice is 7,000 -10,000 words, including references. Authors should follow the De Gruyter Mouton style sheet but with one change: While the standard style sheet stipulates, under 'Special attention', that authors should have their "contribution carefully checked by a native speaker", the editors of Englishes in Practice simply expect authors to submit manuscripts written in an English which is intelligible to a wide international academic audience, but it need not conform to native English norms.

Please use the following:

  • Font & size: Tahoma 12 (main body of text)
  • Line spacing: 1.15
  • Margins 3 cm top & bottom; 2.54 cm left & right.
  • Author’s name (bold, 12) above article name (bold, 14)
  • Level 1 headings: bold, 14
  • Level 2 headings: bold, 12
  • Level 3 headings: normal, 12

Abstracts and keywords. Authors are invited to provide two abstracts of their paper of about 200 words each: one in English, and one in a language they can choose entirely freely. 5-7 keywords should also be provided in both languages.

Article Processing Charge (APC)

The journal does not have article processing charges (APCs) nor article submission charges.
