Internet of Things in Marketing: Opportunities and Security Issues

Pubblicato online: 15 Mar 2018
Pagine: 217 - 221

Astratto

Abstract

Internet of Things (IoT) affects different areas of human activities: everyday life of ordinary citizens, work style of marketing teams, factories and even entire cities. Large companies try to implement the technology in their marketing strategy that reshapes not only communication style and product promotion but consumers’ expectations, perceptions and requirements towards companies. IoT is expected to become a huge network that will encompass not only smart devices but significantly influence humans’ behavior, in this particular case - decision making style in different phases of purchase process. Therefore, the need for comprehensive scientific research is necessary. The issue needs to be reviewed from various points of view, such as opportunities, advantages, disadvantages, legal and technical considerations. The paper is an attempt to review different aspects of using Internet of Things for marketing purposes, identify some of the major problems and present possible ways of solution.

Possibilities of Effective Inertisation of Self-Heating Places in Goaf of Longwall in Hard Coal Mines

Pubblicato online: 15 Mar 2018
Pagine: 222 - 227

Astratto

Abstract

Underground fires in coal mines belong to the most common hazards, the exposure to which frequently requires long term and costly rescue operations. It is mainly connected with the specific character of underground excavations which have limited volume. This makes the maximum permissible concentration of harmful gases rapidly exceeded and may also cause changes in air flow direction. The most certain way of improving a safety situation in Polish coal mining industry is taking early prevention steps. One of the prevention methods is inertisation of the atmosphere in longwall goaf. These activities rely on partial or total replacement of air or combustible atmosphere by inert gas. Thanks to them the risk of spontaneous fires hazard and gas explosion decreases. The main reason for the use of inert gases is to reduce the oxygen content to a limit which prevents further development of fire. This article presents methods for assessing inert gas to replace oxygen in the atmosphere in goaf.

The Adoption of the Arcgis System to Support the Analyses of the Influence of the Mining Tremors on the Building Objects

Pubblicato online: 15 Mar 2018
Pagine: 228 - 236

Astratto

Abstract

Nowadays the mining companies use the Spatial Information System in order to facilitate data management, gathered during the mining activity. For these purposes various kinds of applications and software information are used. They allow for faster and easier data processing. In the paper there are presented the possibilities of using the ArcGIS system to support the tasks performed in the mining industry in the scope of the analysis of the influence of the mining tremors, induced by the longwall exploitation on the facilities construction sited on the surface area. These possibilities are presented by the example of the database developed for the coal mine KWK “Rydułtowy-Anna.” The developed database was created using ArcGIS software for Desktop 10. 1. It contains the values of parameters, specified for its implementation relevant to the analyses of the influence of the mining tremors on the surface structures.

Qualitative Importance Measures of Systems Components – A New Approach and Its Applications

Pubblicato online: 15 Mar 2018
Pagine: 237 - 246

Astratto

Abstract

The paper presents an improved methodology of analysing the qualitative importance of components in the functional and reliability structures of the system. We present basic importance measures, i.e. the Birnbaum’s structural measure, the order of the smallest minimal cut-set, the repetition count of an i-th event in the Fault Tree and the streams measure. A subsystem of circulation pumps and fuel heaters in the main engine fuel supply system of a container vessel illustrates the qualitative importance analysis. We constructed a functional model and a Fault Tree which we analysed using qualitative measures. Additionally, we compared the calculated measures and introduced corrected measures as a tool for improving the analysis. We proposed scaled measures and a common measure taking into account the location of the component in the reliability and functional structures. Finally, we proposed an area where the measures could be applied.

Determination of the Zone Endangered by Methane Explosion in Goaf with Caving of Longwalls Ventilated on „Y“ System

Pubblicato online: 15 Mar 2018
Pagine: 247 - 251

Astratto

Abstract

One of the most dangerous and most commonly present risks in hard coal mines is methane hazard. During exploitation by longwall system with caving, methane is emitted to mine heading from the mined coal and coal left in a pile. A large amount of methane also flows from neighboring seams through cracks and fissures formed in rock mass. In a case of accumulation of explosive methane concentration in goaf zone and with appropriate oxygen concentration and occurrence of initials (e.g. spark or endogenous fire), it may come to the explosion of this gas. In the paper there are presented results of numerical analysis of mixture of air and methane streams flow through the real heading system of a mine, characterized by high methane hazard. The aim of the studies was to analyze the ventilation system of considered heading system and determination of braking zones in goaf zone, in which dangerous and explosive concertation of methane can occur with sufficient oxygen concentration equal to at least 12%. Determination of position of these zones is necessary for the selection of appropriate parameters of the ventilation system to ensure safety of the crew. Analysis of the scale of methane hazard allows to select such a ventilation system of exploitation and neighboring headings that ensures chemical composition of mining atmosphere required by regulation, and required efficiency of methane drainage. The obtained results clearly show that numerical methods, combined with the results of tests in real conditions can be successfully used for the analysis of variants of processes related to ventilation of underground mining, and also in the analysis of emergency states.

Improvement of the Process of Implementation of New Product for European Market - Case Study

Pubblicato online: 15 Mar 2018
Pagine: 259 - 263

Astratto

Abstract

An inseparable element of intelligent processes is the effective use of knowledge gained from external sources and the ability to change under the influence of external factors. An example of this can be found in the process of introducing a new construction product to the EU market. It has to react to the ever-changing EU legislature and the national regulations that adapt to it. The frequently asked questions from manufacturers and importers indicate the necessity of creating a procedure that would allow for precisely explaining what the algorithm of the process looks like and what criteria must be met to introduce the new product into the construction product market. The complexity and multitude of regulations as well as the language barrier also cause other complications with the understanding of the process procedure of conduct. The graphical presentation of the algorithm should facilitate following the path of conduct in the case of introducing a new construction product into the EU market. The graphical form should allow for intuitive movement in the process and can constitute a basis for creating an interactive form.

Innovative Use of Quality Management Methods for Product Improvement

Pubblicato online: 15 Mar 2018
Pagine: 264 - 267

Astratto

Abstract

Organisations constantly look for new, innovative solutions and methods which could be used to improve their efficiency and increase the quality of their products. Identifying the causes for returns is an important issue for modern companies, as returns are the cause for the increase in production costs and, most importantly, the loss of credibility in the eyes of the client. Therefore, for the company to be able to sustain or strengthen its position on the market, it has to follow the rules of quality management. Especially important is the rule of constant improvement. This rule is primarily connected with preventing errors and defects from occurring at all the stages of the production process. To achieve that, one must, among other things, use quality management tools. The article presents an analysis of causes for returns of a vibrating screen produced by a company which manufactures machinery and equipment for the extractive industry, using quality management tools such as the Ishikawa diagram and Pareto analysis. The analysis allowed for the identification of the causes of client returns which could not be previously identified, and proposing solutions for them.
