<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>The paper presents possibilities of the application of open-cell metal foams in the construction of process equipment. The article also describes results of own experimental studies on hydrodynamic and thermal phenomena occurring during fluid flow through channels packed with aluminium alloy foams. The collected experimental data enabled to determine, among others, pressure drops and the heat transfer coefficient, and to indicate main gas–liquid flow patterns.</p></abstract>
