<p>The article presents an assessment of Poland's participation in Earth observation programmes within its 10 years of membership in the European Space Agency (ESA). A diagnosis of the current state of affairs makes it possible to assess the actions taken to date by policy-makers and to indicate the directions which should be taken in the future so that satellite data on the Earth's surface is more widely utilised and available.</p>
