<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>The paper focuses on relations between word-formation and morphemic structure of a Slovak word based on the material from <italic>Slovník koreňových morfém slovenčiny</italic> [Slovak Dictionary of Root Morphemes] (Sokolová et al., 2012). Particularly, manifestations of morphemic variation determined by word-formation poly-motivation are analysed. Poly-motivation arises from the re-grouping of the relations within a word-formation nest, where the mediated motivation can be understood as an alternative direct motivation, e.g. <italic>aerodynamika</italic> [noun, ‘aerodynamics’] → (<italic>aerodynamický</italic> [adjective, ‘related to aerodynamics’]) → <italic>aerodynamicky</italic> [adverb]. The adverb <italic>aerodynamicky</italic> is derived from the adjective (<italic>aerodynamický</italic> → <italic>aerodynamick-y</italic> ‘in an aerodynamic manner’) as well as from the noun (<italic>aerodynamika</italic> → <italic>aerodynamic-ky</italic> ‘with regard to aerodynamics’). Thus, the structure of affixes can be extended as a result of infixation conditioned by poly-motivation, cf. <italic>aerodynamick-y</italic> (suffix <italic>-y</italic>) / <italic>aerodynamic-ky</italic> (suffix <italic>-y</italic> with an infix: <italic>-k:y</italic>). As far as poly-motivation is concerned, a particular affix can have several morphemic and word-formation manifestations, e.g. Slovak adverb suffix <italic>-y</italic> can be manifested as <italic>-y</italic>, <italic>-ky</italic>, <italic>-icky</italic>, <italic>-isticky</italic>, <italic>-sky</italic>, <italic>-euticky</italic>, <italic>-aticky</italic>, <italic>-eticky</italic>, <italic>-ecky</italic>, <italic>-nícky</italic>.</p></abstract>
