<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p> The present paper describes an automatic balance for the sorting and classification of cigarettes as developed by the collaboration of Mettler with the Brinkmann laboratories. The principle and the construction of the balance are described. The results shown permit a detailed discussion leading to the conclusion that the described automatic balance is a satisfactory instrument for the quality control in cigarette factories. </p></abstract>
