<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>A total of 558 specimens of black-bellied anglerfish <italic>Lophius budegassa</italic> (Spinola, 1807) were collected by the vessels engaged in commercial trawl fishing in the Central Aegean Sea between September 2017 and August 2018 in order to determine age and growth. Ageing was based on growth ring counts of transverse sections of the <italic>illicium</italic> (first ray of the dorsal fin). By reading the <italic>illicium</italic>, individuals were found within II-XI age groups. Total lengths and weights ranged between 12.0 – 65.0 cm and 24.5 – 4682.0 g, respectively. Von Bertalanffy growth parameters were estimated for males, females and combined sexes of <italic>L. budegassa</italic>. The results are compared with previous studies.</p></abstract>
