Orthotrichum affine var. bohemicum Plášek & Sawicki was described as a new variety from the Czech Republic in 2011. However, in the original diagnosis the holotype specimen and the type location were not conclusively designated. To validate this new name, the current article clearly states which specimen is selected as the holotype and the type locality.

A mass occurrence of adults of Pseudopomyza atrimana (Meigen, 1830), the only European representative of the family Pseudopomyzidae, on heaps of rotten cut grass in woodland areas of the Muránska planina National Park (Slovakia) is described. All available biological information on the species is summarized and probable breeding substrates are discussed. Frequent mating of P. atrimana on rotten grass was observed and photographed.

The paper discusses the differentiation of the wall plant communities occurring in the vicinity of Lake Garda (North Italy), between the cities of Lazise and Torbole. Three associations have been recorded: Linario cymbalariae-Parietarietum ramiflorae Pignatti 1952, Linario-Erigeronetum mucronati Segal 1969, Oxalido-Parietarietum judaicae (Br.-Bl. 1952) Segal 1969, and community with domination of Asplenium ceterach. The results can indicate that some of the associations distinguished by Brullo & Guarino (1998) in their pan-European synthesis do not exist as separable units.

We concentrated on gathering entomological works focused on the Praděd National Natural Reserve (NNR) to the end of 2010. The bibliography comprises 433 published and unpublished works that deal with insect fauna of the Praděd NNR. The titles have originated from the years 1819-2010. Almost the same number of studies has been devoted to Coleoptera (100) as to Lepidoptera (97) and Diptera (102). The remaining 134 papers deal with other groups of insects

First exact records of Mediterranean Mantis, Iris oratoria (Linnaeus, 1758) (Dictyoptera: Mantodea: Tarachodidae), in Croatia are reported based on specimens collected on Korčula Island in 1960s and on Brač Island in 2011. Additional records of I. oratoria from France, Greece, Spain and Turkey found in the collections of National Museum, Praha and Moravian Museum, Brno, are included.

A review of the fauna of leaf-mining flies (Diptera: Agromyzidae) in the Gemer region (Slovakia) is presented. A total of 140 species of Agromyzidae are recorded from the Gemer region in central Slovakia (Muránska planina NP - 126 species, Slovenský raj NP - 54 species, Slovenský kras NP - 22 species). Three new species, Cerodontha (Butomomyza) gemerensis sp. n., Chromatomyiacepelaki sp. n. and Liriomyza muranica sp. n., are described from Slovakia (Gemer region). All descriptions are supplemented by illustrations of diagnostic features including those of the male and female terminalia. Twenty-one species, Cerodontha (Dizygomyza) luzulae (Groschke, 1957), Hexomyza simplicoides (Hendel, 1920), Liriomyza scorzonerae Rydén, 1951, L. urophorina Mik, 1894, Napomyza bellidis Griffiths, 1967, N. cichorii Spencer, 1966, N. maritima von Tschirnhaus, 1981, Ophiomyia spenceri Černý, 1985, O. stenophaga Pakalniškis, 1998, Phytomyza adjuncta Hering, 1928, P. brischkei Hendel, 1922, P. griffithsi Spencer, 1963, P. medicaginis Hering, 1925, P.podagrariae Hering, 1954, P. rydeni Hering, 1934, P. salviae (Hering, 1924), P. soenderupi Hering, 1941, P. spoliata Strobl, 1906, P. trolliivora Hering, 1935, P. tussilaginis Hendel, 1925 and P.vitalbae Kaltenbach, 1872, are recorded from Slovakia for the first time. The significance of the regional fauna of Agromyzidae in the Gemer area is discussed.

In 2004-2005 and 2010-2011 bryological investigations were carried out in the ‘Torfowisko Bory’ ecological area located in Sosnowiec in Silesian Upland. In total, 11 species and 1 variety of liverworts and 62 species and 1 variety of mosses were discovered in the study area. The most interesting bryophytes include Campylopus introflexus (Hedw.) Brid., Limprichtia cossonii (Schimp.) L. E. Anderson, H. A. Crum & W. R. Buck, Philonotis tomentella Molendo, Pseudocalliergon lycopodioides (Brid.) Hedenäs, Riccardia chamedryfolia (With.) Grolle and Riccardia incurvata Lindb.

New data about the distribution of selected species of family Heleomyzidae (Diptera) in the Czech Republic and Slovakia are given. Scoliocentra (Leriola) nigrinervis (Wahlgren, 1918) and Suillia cepelaki Martinek, 1985 are recorded for the first time from the Czech Republic and Orbellia cuniculorum Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 is a new addition to the fauna of Slovakia. New records of three rare species of the genus Suillia, viz. S. variegata (Loew, 1862), S. gigantea (Meigen, 1830) and S. oxyphora (Mik, 1900) from the Czech Republic are presented. The habitat association and the attraction of adults of some species to bait used in traps are discussed.

A large proportion of Micromys minutus in winter diet of the Long-eared Owl Asio otus is discussed.

Bryological research in Radhošť National Natural Reserve was carried out in 2011. A list of all recorded taxa and their threat status are given.
