<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>A list of 24 species collected in the alpine zone of the Southern Carpathians is given. Fourteen species are new to Romania and the Southern Carpathians; five have not been previously reported from the Carpathian Mts. A synopsis of the geographical distribution of eleven species representing the arctic-alpine element is included. The seven most interesting species, <italic>Inocybe alboperonata, I. microfastigiata, I. nespiakii, I. oreina, Lactarius brunneoviolaceus, L. nanus</italic>, and <italic>Russula heterochroa</italic>, are described and illustrations of their microcharacters are given.</p></abstract>
