<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>The paper investigates the evocation of the figurative meanings of English phrasal verbs of the form: component verb <italic>come</italic> + component particle <italic>up</italic> when they are employed in resultative constructions. Four instances of <italic>come up</italic> are discussed. It is suggested that the figurative meanings of <italic>come up</italic> are rooted to conceptual metaphors.</p></abstract>
