<p>Research interests in the psychological wellbeing of caregivers has continued to attract heightened attention. Thus, this study presented an examination of the predictive roles of occupational stress and emotional intelligence on psychological wellbeing. Participants, who were 270 nurses that were selected through the proportionate stratified random sampling technique, responded to Scales of Psychological Wellbeing (SPWB), Occupational Stress Inventory (OSI) and Emotional Intelligence Scale (EIS). Results from the multiple regression showed no link between occupational stress psychological wellbeing, but emotional intelligence predicted the psychological wellbeing. Furthermore, the study found that length of service did not significantly predict psychological wellbeing. Lastly, it revealed that occupational stress, emotional intelligence and length of service jointly predicted psychological wellbeing. Training and development opportunities to enhance nurses’ emotional intelligence should be encouraged in Government-owned hospitals to facilitate optimum psychological wellbeing of nurses.</p>
