After considering the sifting analysis of tobacco in general, the author examines the factors which have an influence on the result. It is shown that a comparative sifting analysis gives reproducible results only if the water content of tobacco, the type of sifting machine, the size of the sieve holes, and the length of sifting are indicated. It is recommended to institute standards to this end. The described practical application shows that representative and discussible results can be obtained under uniform conditions.
