Procedures for taking standardised facial photographs are described using a single lens reflex camera and bilateral projected grids. The subject is positioned in the natural head position and supported with a specially designed head stabilizer. The contours of the face may then be digitised and processed using computer aided drafting (CAD) techniques to provide three dimensional co-ordinates of the face as an aid in planning orthognathic surgery.
