<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p><italic>Amaranthus lividus</italic> is the most frequently reported troublesome weed in the production of <italic>Capsicum annuum</italic> in some regions because it is an aggressive invader, difficult to control, and reduces yield significantly. The effects of <italic>A</italic>. <italic>lividus</italic> on the growth of <italic>C</italic>. <italic>annuum</italic> ‘Baklouti’ were evaluated under greenhouse conditions. Three experiments were conducted to determine the effect of <italic>A</italic>. <italic>lividus</italic> on the biomass accumulation of <italic>C</italic>. <italic>annuum</italic> seedlings for 40 days. In an additive experiment, to one <italic>C</italic>. <italic>annuum</italic> seedling and 1, 2, 3 or 4 <italic>A</italic>. <italic>lividus</italic> seedlings were grown per pot. The second experiment was established to assess <italic>C. annuum</italic> intracompetition using from one to six plants per pot as the density. In a replacement experiment, <italic>C</italic>. <italic>annuum</italic> and <italic>A</italic>. <italic>lividus</italic> seedlings were transplanted into pots with different proportions of both plants (1/5, 2/4, 3/3, 4/2, 5/1). Competition by <italic>A</italic>. <italic>lividus</italic> reduced <italic>C</italic>. <italic>annuum</italic> plant dry weight by as much as 93%. However, <italic>C</italic>. <italic>annuum</italic> had little effect on <italic>A</italic>. <italic>lividus</italic>, reducing dry weight by 31.3% at a 5:1 ratio of <italic>C</italic>. <italic>annuum</italic>: <italic>A</italic>. <italic>lividus</italic>. Relative yield analysis between <italic>C. annuum</italic> and <italic>A. lividus</italic> demonstrated the competitive advantage of <italic>C. annuum</italic> over <italic>A. lividus.</italic> The relative crowding coefficient of both plants changed significantly in the presence of the other plant, at any ratio. The aggressivity of <italic>C</italic>. <italic>annuum</italic> was higher at its lower proportion and <italic>C</italic>. <italic>annuum</italic> was more aggressive towards itself than towards <italic>A</italic>. <italic>lividus</italic> when its density increased.</p></abstract>
