<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><sec id="j_ijhp-2017-0024_s_005_w2aab3b7b3b1b6b1aab1c16b1Aa"><h3>Introduction</h3><p>The International Classification of Functioning Disability and Health (ICF) provides the language and a framework applying a unified and standardized form to describe health and conditions related to health. Teams who work in an interdisciplinary and multi professional way, as it is the case in neuro rehabilitation, can profit from integrating the ICF. The aim of this paper was to show how well implemented the ICF is in Austria with occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and physiotherapists working in neuro rehabilitation.</p></sec><sec id="j_ijhp-2017-0024_s_006_w2aab3b7b3b1b6b1aab1c16b2Aa"><h3>Methods</h3><p>The present paper is a follow-up project of the APPEAR study. An extended questionnaire, which has been sent to 109 therapists working in Austrian neurologic rehabilitation facilities forms the basis for the results presented here.</p></sec><sec id="j_ijhp-2017-0024_s_007_w2aab3b7b3b1b6b1aab1c16b3Aa"><h3>Results</h3><p>64 questionnaires were returned from occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and physio therapists and were used for evaluation. 50% of the therapists who answered the questionnaire (n=25) stated that the ICF has already been implemented in their institution. Therapists often applied ICF (n=35) when using common documentation systems. Additionally, therapists consider the ICF an aid to support interdisciplinary and multi professional work. The therapists also stated (n=27) that they are not satisfied with the ICF when inpatients become outpatients.</p></sec><sec id="j_ijhp-2017-0024_s_008_w2aab3b7b3b1b6b1aab1c16b4Aa"><h3>Conclusions</h3><p>Many therapists answering the questionnaire consider the ICF an important tool for optimizing the rehabilitation process. Barriers contributing to hindering an implementation of the ICF should be eliminated in the future. In order to achieve that aim, institutions should provide time and financial resources to further the education of their employees.</p></sec></abstract>

<trans-abstract xml:lang="de" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><sec id="j_ijhp-2017-0024_s_009_w2aab3b7b3b1b6b1aab1c17b1Aa"><h3>Einleitung</h3><p>Die „Internationale Klassifikation der Funktionsfähigkeit, Behinderung und Gesundheit“ (ICF) ermöglicht in einer einheitlichen und standardisierten Form eine Sprache und einen Rahmen zur Beschreibung von Gesundheit und mit Gesundheit zusammenhängenden Zuständen. Interdisziplinäres und multiprofessionelles Arbeiten, wie es im Bereich der Neurorehabilitation seit vielen Jahren praktiziert wird, könnte von einer verstärkten Integrierung der ICF profitieren. Das Ziel der vorliegenden Untersuchung war es, die Implementierung der ICF in der Neurorehabilitation in den Berufsgruppen Ergotherapie, Logopädie und Physiotherapie in Österreich abzubilden.</p></sec><sec id="j_ijhp-2017-0024_s_010_w2aab3b7b3b1b6b1aab1c17b2Aa"><h3>Methode</h3><p>Die vorliegende Untersuchung stellt ein Folgeprojekt der APPEAR-Studie dar. Für die Hälfte der befragten Therapeuten/-innen (n = 25) stellt die ICF bereits eine institutionelle Vorgabe dar. Die therapeutischen Gruppen implementieren die ICF häufig (n= 35) in gemeinsamen Dokumentationssystemen. Zudem sehen befragte Therapeut/-innen die ICF als Hilfestellung in der interdisziplinären und multiprofessionellen Arbeit. Die Befragten (n = 27) gaben auch an, dass sie mit dem Schnittstellenmanagement beim Übergang von der stationären zur ambulanten Versorgung nicht zufrieden sind.</p></sec><sec id="j_ijhp-2017-0024_s_012_w2aab3b7b3b1b6b1aab1c17b4Aa"><h3>Schlussfolgerungen</h3><p>Für viele der Befragten stellt die ICF bereits ein wichtiges Mittel zur Optimierung des Rehabilitationsprozesses dar. Barrieren, die zu einer mangelnden Implementierung der ICF beitragen, sollten zukünftig abgebaut werden. Dabei sollten übergeordnete Institutionen sowohl Zeiten, aber auch finanzielle Unterstützung für Fort- und Weiterbildung zur Verfügung stellen.</p></sec></trans-abstract>
