T A hazardous incident occurred in the summer of 2011 within an industrial platform belonging to a thermal-power plant located in the south-western part of Romania. The event which affected the wet chimney of the gas desulphurisation installation was a fire, triggered at a height of 54 m. It was liquidated by the team for emergency situations, but there occurred important material losses. There weren’t any human losses. In order to elucidate the objective and subjective causes which led to the occurrence of this event, there were carried out researches, there were made assumptions, there were studied the ignition sources, there were carried out tests on work materials, whose modelling provided the mechanism of the fire, and their analyses provided the result of the investigations.
