Figure 1

It demonstrates morphology of the quadriceps tendon in left cadaveric knee. Three reference points were identified: the most proximal point of the tendon, medial, and lateral edge of tendon insertion on patella (black solid dot). We created a transverse line connecting medial and lateral edges of the tendon (transverse solid line). Then, we created a longitudinal line from the most proximal point of the tendon perpendicular to the transverse solid line passing the superior border of patella (curve dot line). The grid line illustrates how to measure the length (starting at the longitudinal solid line and every 5-mm increments medially and laterally from this line) and the width of the tendon (starting at the level of patella insertion and every 10-mm increments proximally up to the most proximal point of the tendon). The maximum length of quadriceps tendon was located at 61.4% from the medial edge of the patella.

Figure 2

Quadriceps tendon after dissection. Length of the quadriceps tendon at the deepest part and the thickness of the tendon were measured (A). Musculotendinous junction of the deep part of the quadriceps tendon was located more distal than the superficial part in this cadaveric knee (B).

Figure 3

The bar graph represents quadriceps tendon length. The number labeled above each bar represents the mean length of tendon at each location that was measured. The number labeled below each bar represents the location of measurement, either medially or laterally, away from the maximum length of the tendon (0).

Original technique of quadriceps tendon graft harvest (A). The midline of patella (solid line) is marked as the center of the graft. New proposed technique of graft harvest (B). The midline of patella is marked as the medial border of the graft. The graft was harvested laterally from the midline of patella.
