<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">The Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand, has had a synergistic collaboration with King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital of the Thai Red Cross Society for more than 60 years. We aimed to serve as the main teaching hospital in Thailand, producing innovative research and clinical excellence in a tertiary care center. Our Department of Medicine took root in 1948, and then in 1950 we welcomed our first class of medical students. An internal medicine residency training program was established in 1972. This training program has well been recognized and the trainees gain clinical experience from trainers with combined experience in a diversity of medical problems. We additionally develop technology and conduct basic research to create new knowledge of a high standard that can be applied to public health problems in Thailand.The Department of Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University is currently comprised of 19 divisions, which offer over 52 categorical positions annually for residency training in internal medicine. To serve our academic point of view, we have headed comprehensive research including that related to cancer, emerging infectious diseases, and clinical translational sciences. The productivity of our clinical research has impacted both national and international health care policy, for example in rabies, AIDS, and dengue infection. This outstanding research is communicated to the scientific community via publications. This special supplement issue of <italic>Asian Biomedicine</italic>, a Science Citation Indexed international journal is a source of communications by researchers and clinicians in a wide spectrum of internal medicine disciplines, and includes review articles, original articles, and brief communications, for example regarding acute diarrhea, a significant burden on Thailand's universal health care system, the accuracy of reticulocyte hemoglobin content in Thai patients with microcytic red cells for predicting iron deficiency anemia, an update of HIV/AIDS in Asia, and a narrative review of the pathophysiology of parkinsonian tremor.We hope this special supplement issue will be of value to all readers, and that the information herein can be applied to improve the clinical practice.
