<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

<p>In this article we present the new species <italic>Crocus cobbii</italic> from the northwestern part of the Iberian Peninsula. The definition of <italic>Crocus cobbii</italic> is based on molecular and detailed morphological findings, including the molecular examination and morphological revision of its four relatives, <italic>C. nudiflorus</italic>, <italic>C. clusii</italic>, <italic>C. salzmannii</italic>, and <italic>C. serotinus</italic>. An epitypfication for <italic>C. serotinus</italic> was done and a lectotype for <italic>C. nudiflorus</italic> designated. In addition, our molecular data assign the origin of the English <italic>C. nudiflorus</italic>, from which the plant was originally described, to the eastern Pyrenees.</p>
