Only few books are as fundamental to Luhmann’s understanding of political inclusion as his »Legitimation durch Verfahren«, and few have been read so superficially and misunderstood in their intention. It is not about a kind of legal standardization of political discourses, and it is not about a technocracy of decision-making processes. Rather, this book is about committing political controversies to an objectivity that makes defeats acceptable by preserving the dignity of the losers – and in this way keeps the future of politics open.
