The Journal of Architecture and Urban Planning is an Open Access journal; articles are published during the year, with the closing of annual issue in December. Articles are assigned a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) number whereby it becomes possible to search and cite them without delay. The journal focuses on such themes as History of Architecture and Urbanism, Preservation and Development of Cultural Heritage, Theories and Criticism of Architecture and Urbanism, Local and Global Tendencies in Architecture and Urban Planning, Sustainable Architecture and Urban Environment, as well as Landscape Architecture. The manuscripts submitted for consideration should contain previously unpublished material.

Instructions for Authors

The manuscripts are accepted in English. The submissions should be made online at aup-journals.rtu.lv/about/submissions#onlineSubmissions and comply with the requirements set in the Submission Preparation Checklist.

Peer Review

The submitted manuscripts are double-blind peer reviewed by two experts of the relevant field. The author(s) are provided with feedback. After the peer review, the managing editor assesses the paper’s suitability for publication in the journal and informs the author(s) about the decision.

APC Policy

There are no Article Processing Charges or any other publication charges.

The author(s) are asked to sign License to Publish governed by the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license as currently displayed on https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/, throughout the world, in any form, in any language, for the full term of copyright, effective upon acceptance for publication. Type of Manuscripts

The journal accepts the following types of manuscripts for publication (submitted articles should be original and have not already been published or submitted for publication elsewhere):　
Article: Original research manuscripts that have not been published elsewhere. Articles shall have a maximum length of 6000 words. During a potential revision stage, the article length can be extended to 8500 words.　
Review: A manuscript that provides a review of the current state of research on a particular topic. Reviews shall have a maximum of 8500 words.　

Open Access Statement

The journal is an Open Access journal that allows a free unlimited access to all its contents without any restrictions upon publication to all users.

Publication fees

Dear authors,
for articles which are submitted to the system starting from the 17th August 2023, article processing charge (APC) for each manuscript accepted for publication after peer-review is as follows:

• 350 euro (plus VAT if applicable).

The fee is applicable only if the article is accepted for publication.
The journal does not have any submission fees.

Numerous universities and funding agencies allocate funds to cover article processing charges. We recommend authors to contact their departments if funds are available to cover publication costs.
The Article Processing Charge includes: editorial, language copyediting, proofreading, layout design, electronic publishing, project management, administrational costs.
For students and staff of RTU Faculty of Architecture publications are free of charge.
Special fee rules are applied for participants of RTU International Scientific Conference section Architecture and Urban Planning. Please consult the journal staff for more information.
