<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

<p>This scientific paper examines the role of Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) approach in the protection of coastal and marine resources in Tanzania. It  engages coastal resource users and practitioners in focus group discussions and interviews,  and complements the data obtained with documented sources. A modified version of the Benefit Analysis Framework is adopted from Wenger et al. (2011) to analyze the extent to which ICM yields a wide range of benefits that may potentially promote the protection of coastal ecosystem and enhance the commitment of communities that live adjacent to  the coastal strip to manage mangroves, fisheries, coral reefs, and coastal land in a sustainable manner.</p>
